Download – Burn – Boot: Syllable LiveCD4

BurningShadow has released LiveCD4, which is based on LiveCD3, but uses a RAM disk, which makes it more stable and easier to use. Unlike its predecessor, this CD doesn't require floppies or other writable storage to boot. The CD image is available for download here. An installation CD, InstCD1, is also available, with which you can get a system similar to that on LiveCD4 installed permanently.

Syllable – The Little OS with a Big Future

Tired of endless Windows security problems? Intrigued by Linux's power but discouraged by its complexity? Tempted by Mac OS but not thrilled with the hardware cost? If so, you might want to investigate the growing bunch of hobbyist OSes -- Syllable, SkyOS, Haiku, MenuetOS, Visopsys, ReactOS and others. Syllable is perhaps the most promising of them all; it's a maturing open source desktop OS with an evolving kernel & device driver range, and is targeted at the home/small-office user.

Syllable Live CD Available

This is the first release of a Live CD for Syllable (30 MB), created by BurningShadow, based on Syllable 0.5.3 while it includes Arno's dock Alpha 1. This first version of the Live CD is far from perfect, as there are some random crashes to the fact that it is running off a read-only filesystem, we were told.

Syllable 0.5.3 Released

Syllable 0.5.3 is out and much faster than previous releases, due to a new ATA disk driver, faster graphics rendering and the use of a newer compiler. There are new drivers for ATi Radeon and VMWare video, Yamaha DSE/DSE1 audio and a new USB UHCI driver. Libsyllable and the Appserver have been given an overhaul which gives them a cleaner and more flexible API. More info here.
