The January edition of the Syllable Development Newsletter is now available, covering news from the project in the first month of 2005. Major topics: CD-writing support, new network driver, kernel plans, Glibc updates and much more.

The December issue of the Syllable Development Newsletter is now available, covering news and updates for the open source desktop OS. Highlights: 0.5.5 release, ABrowse updates, patches aplenty and more. The renewed eXpert Zone features an interview with Vanders, the main developer of the AtheOS fork Syllable. He speaks of Syllable's origins, it's future, it's applications and more.

Michael Saunders created a Windows package containing a 500 MB virtual Syllable 0.5.4 disk image, along with the QEMU PC emulator. Recommended specs are 1.5 GHz+ with 256 MB RAM.

September was the busiest month in the Syllable project's history, and developments are summarized in the latest newsletter. Highlights include the 0.5.4 release, driver updates, and software enhancements. Also, a Flash demo of Syllable in action is now available, illustrating some of the new desktop features.

Exciting updates for the Syllable OS: an updated port of the X11 "nv" driver for Nvidia cards and an SDL port that would guarantee a good number of game ports.

The August edition of the Syllable Development Newsletter is now available, nutshellising the OS' progress over the last month. Highlights include a website redesign, driver updates and VMware images. Additionally, LinuxBeta.com has assembled a superb slideshow running through Syllable's new desktop and apps.

The July issue of the Syllable Development Newsletter is available, featuring updates and progress from Syllable, the open source desktop OS, over the past month. Highlights include a new 3DFX driver, major ATerm updates and UI principle discussions. Good progress is being made.

Tired of endless Windows security problems? Intrigued by Linux's power but discouraged by its complexity? Tempted by Mac OS but not thrilled with the hardware cost? If so, you might want to investigate the growing bunch of hobbyist OSes -- Syllable, SkyOS, Haiku, MenuetOS, Visopsys, ReactOS and others. Syllable is perhaps the most promising of them all; it's a maturing open source desktop OS with an evolving kernel & device driver range, and is targeted at the home/small-office user.

The new version of the Syllable Live CD includes updates to the ATA driver, i810 audio driver, DHCP client and VMware video driver. Best of all, you can now install the OS from the Live CD - see here. In other Syllable news, Chat 0.2.0 has been released (IM client) and Syllable has been featured in Linux User and Developer magazine (issue 39).

This is the first release of a Live CD for Syllable (30 MB), created by BurningShadow, based on Syllable 0.5.3 while it includes Arno's dock Alpha 1. This first version of the Live CD is far from perfect, as there are some random crashes to the fact that it is running off a read-only filesystem, we were told.

Jamie Clarkson released a screenshot of his work on a Mesa3d port to Syllable. In other news: Syllable 0.5.3 is slated to come out the 1st or 2nd in May. This release has many new features including: a updated Radeon driver, a VMWare driver, a new ATA driver, new Yamaha DS-XG drivers, new install scripts, and a whole lot more. This release also contains a humongus number of patches by the whole Syllable team for GCC 3.x. More info here.
