Six Months with Sony Vegas
Having this recent infatuation with video, I embarked on a trip in the video editor world for Mac, Windows and Linux a few months ago. After days of intense searching and testing last June, I decided on the Windows platform and Sony Vegas. Vegas is one of the quickly rising video applications on the market today. This is an introduction of the application and the features that sets it apart from all the rest.

The New School of Videographers
At OSNews we are committed on being geeky. However, "being a geek" does not always constitute a person who just loves technology. There are geeks about literature (who do you think wrote "Shrek"?), and of course, art geeks. This last kind enjoys a new booming lately with the commoditization of HD camcorders. The following editorial includes suggestions on camera choices, video editors and delivery formats, and has HD video samples of hobbyist cameramen that many professionals could be jealous of.

Ubuntu 7.10 Pragmatic Visual and Behavioral Critique II
"Now let’s not get side-tracked from the primary topic. I’ve decided to focus less on making this an entertaining read and instead provide more brief and to the point examples. This being a sequel article, will certainly prove disappointing to many so I might as well not hold back even if this installment turns into more of a behavior and functional sanity check than a visual presentation critique." Leopard Server Virtualization on the Way
Apple has apparently changed the licensing for OS X Server 10.5. However, client licensing is still restricted to one instance of the OS per physical machine. According to Parallels and VMware, Apple's rewording of their EULA will allow them to update their respective products to run Leopard server inside a virtual machine. The ability to virtualize Apple's server OS bodes well for further expansion of OS X in the enterprise market.
Key-Enabling Kernel Extensions for AIX v6.1
Diagnose and service memory overlays and address errors more efficiently with POWER6 processors and AIX Version 6.1. In the AIX operating system, software components share the kernel address, creating a serviceability issue for the AIX kernel and kernel extensions.

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard: the Ars Technica Review
The Ars review of Leopard concludes: "What a long, strange trip it's been. Leopard turned out very differently than I imagined it would only a year ago. Despite some big disappointments near the end of its development process - the new Dock, the menu bar, more Finder floundering - the foundation is stronger than it's ever been."
‘Linux Doesn’t Lack Drivers, It Lacks Complete Drivers’
"I recently read this article about how the Linux device driver project needs more work to do. I pondered this for awhile, and came to a realization. While Linux still does indeed lack drivers for some hardware, I believe that the lack of drivers is no longer the largest technological obstacle to Linux adoption. The thing Linux needs to focus mostly on now is completeness, not quantity, of hardware support." Read on.
Mother Goes Against Universal Music
When her 0.29" family video was taken down by YouTube on the request of Universal MPG, the affected mother of two struck back with a lawsuit against Universal with the help of the EFF. While technically her family video might have been a copyright infringement as she had no license to include Prince's song as a background score, it is encouraging to see the public fighting back against restrictive laws that get in the way of their every day lives. My Take: I stated my own opinion on the matter on my personal blog.

Review: Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
"OS X 10.5 Leopard is the best operating system released by Apple so far and runs neck and neck with Ubuntu's Gutsy Gibbon as my favorite operating systems to use. In the past I wanted to get an iMac, but not because of OS X but rather because of their sleek hardware. Now after using Leopard, I want to buy an iMac to run Leopard. Nice job Apple."

‘Apple’s Leopard Leaps to New Heights’
"What's new in Leopard? A lot. From the unified interface (goodbye, brushed aluminum) to major under-the-hood changes, to wholly new apps, Leopard is a substantial, albeit evolutionary, advance for Mac OS X that builds on a solid foundation and adds a modicum of eye candy to reinforce the notion that this is something new and improved. It's also fast - especially impressive given the new graphics sprinkled throughout the OS."
