Windows media format and long. He says that there are a lot of things in BitTorrent that could be made better but he left as good enough. Can’t seem to find a changelog anywhere.
Anyone know if there’s anything significant? Should I stop using Azureus? or will these changes be merged soon? I couldn’t find a changelog for the life of me.
I don’t think you or anyone else should stop using azureus. If you’re not satisfied with the way it works right now then something’s wrong with your setup.
No offense, and maybe I’m reading what you said wrong, but that is about the most *obtuse* thing I’ve heard so far this week. Are you saying that AZ is perfect and, if it doesn’t fullfill a user’s needs, that there’s something wrong with the user?
Not at all. BitTorrent is written in Python. Azureus contains an implementation of the protocol in Java, with no Python to be found.
But you are part right. Only changes to the protocol may affect Azureus – any other changes to the original program won’t have any effect on Azureus, as it doesn’t use the original at all.
Nice that they have a new version, but I will never be able to escape the blue screen (linksys 4.1 network card) as long as I download apps in Windows. Works fine in linux tho
The news link on the bittorrent homepage links to mysearch, not spyware locally.
BullShit, man this is the only good program for a mac to dl with i mean come on i didnt donate but a linux version why not just write a program just for lame sci-fi shows and movies
where is there a mention of an new OS X client? On the main page it just has a link to the old one and I have not found any information which suggests that it is pending.
I will try that updated driver on the page you listed, but I am not going to get my hopes up just yet. It looks like its for the verion 5 of the card, whilst I have the version 4.1. It is worth a shot tho and I will install it or attempt to.

Yeah, I’m looking for the changelog as well.

Yeah this version has DRM hehe… j/k
in beos i get the following error message:
ERROR:
[02:14:01] This seems to be an old Python version which does not support detecting the filesystem encoding. Assuming ‘ascii’.
but it seem to create the file ok anyway.
Isn’t Azureus just a frontend anyway? Changes to BT shouldn’t affect it at all.

another thing i noticed in the console mode, the file size is no longuer printed (i was using 3.4.2 before). That kinda suck.
Azureus is a Java reimplementation of the protocol AFAIK.

http://www.bittorrent.com/bittorrent_versions.html
I think ill stay with bittornado. The official bittorrent still has a shit interface.
Not to mention you cant set your upload speed (we’re not all running t1’s).
Not true. The interface has been completely rewritten in 4.0.0, and it lets you set your upload speed.
yes 4.0 is a big improvement indeed. keep up the good work
Anyone else notice that the “news” URL actually goes to http://ms128.mysearch.com/jsp/AWnws.jsp?st=&ptnrS=&t=&searchfor=bit… ? Isn’t that the nasty spyware toolbar for IE that gets paid to show results?
Congratulations, you’ve got spy/mal/adware installed on your system.
Here’s a few urls for you:

we needed that
It’s not the webpage, it’s your computer that’s doing that…
Funny how there’s no .torrent for BitTorrent.
Useful for first time user of Bittorrent who does not have a bittorrent client yet
Whats a good BitTorrent for newbie but can use advance features later?
The link really goes to mysearch, I certainly do not have spyware installed. Probably an error of Bram Cohen.
No, it’s on the http://www.bittorrent.com/ site!
I wondered about it too – and confirmed it by wgetting it from my linux box, which sure as hell isn’t infected!

Check those links I posted a few posts ago. You might be in for a surprise.
The url in this article does not link to mysearch.
Sorry, I just read the post before mine.
That’s nasty..
$ wget -O- ‘http://www.bittorrent.com/bittorrent_versions.html‘ 2> /dev/null | grep mysearch
document.search.action = “http://ms128.mysearch.com/jsp/GGmain.jsp?searchfor=“+searchstr;

<td width=”16%” class=”downlinks”><a href=”http://ms128.mysearch.com/jsp/AWnws.jsp?st=&ptnrS=&t=&searchfor=bit…

Which is available for OS X and actually looks good due to SWT, which allows it to use Cocoa. Not that the Aqua L & F for Swing doesn’t look good.

I’ve had that issue some time ago. For me, it happened because the driver couldn’t handle the download speeds.
An updated driver from the following page fixed it:
http://btfaq.com/serve/cache/36.html

a better client for gnome:
http://www.ruinedsoft.com/freeloader/
It’s written entirely in Python, so the generic version should run perfectly on MacOS X (in the Terminal, without GUI) if you have Python installed.
Download BitTorrent:
http://www.bittorrent.com/dl/BitTorrent-4.0.0.tar.gz
And Python:
http://homepages.cwi.nl/~jack/macpython/download.html
thanks for the freeloader link!
sorry, I was asking about the GUI version. You are right though, the it works in the terminal perfectly.
My Ubuntu system has spyware? Looks like I’ll have to switch to FreeBSD now to avoid it.
The link does not go to mysearch, but the pages on the linked site do contain the following javascript:
<script language=”javascript” type=”text/javascript”>
function sendheader(searchtype) {
var searchstr = document.search.searchtxt.value;
if (document.search.rdfile.checked == true) {
searchstr = searchstr+” filetype:torrent”;
document.search.action = “http://ms128.mysearch.com/jsp/GGmain.jsp?searchfor=“+searchstr;
document.search.submit();
}
else{
document.search.action = “http://ms128.mysearch.com/jsp/GGmain.jsp?searchfor=“+searchstr;
document.search.submit();
}
}
</script>
