After two months of being offline, Microsoft releases new versions for the famous PowerToys for WindowsXP. You can now download the new versions for Open Command Window Here, Alt-Tab Replacement, Tweak UI, Power Calculator, Image Resizer, CD Slide Show Generator, Virtual Desktop Manager, Taskbar Magnifier, HTML Slide Show Wizard and the Webcam Timershot. In this release, Microsoft did not include some other popular PowerToys like the “Desk Menu tool” and “Extra Send to menu” and the Shell Audio player and ISO Burner.
Wow, MS managed to split a nice 930k installation package into 10 seperate files totalling 5.7 meg.
why the He11 not!!
How many hours is it sposed to take for your comments to appear?
This is good news, I love TweakUI! Sure you can do most these things through registry hacks but I prefer a nice interface to do them. They should really add some of this stuff into the OS itself but it’s nice they released these tools again.
on KaZaA file sharing service, that’s where I got it a few weeks ago.
They have also removed in this version the “Fast User Switching”.
BTW, if you installed the virtual desktops, and you don’t know how to start it, just right click on the Taskbar and then follow Toolbars/DesktopManager.
So… I can download TweakUI by itself for “Win95, Win98, Win2K, WinXP,” but I cannot install this so called XP version on W2K. Because the installer checks my OS version? Right… Whatever. I’ll stick to my tiny four file install routine: right-click on the tweakui.ini file, click on “install.” Done. Thanks for nothing, Microsoft.

Oh, come on Jace. Why are you actually using it then? If it was “nothing”, you would not go into all the trouble to manually install it. WinXP is based on 2k, but that does not mean that they are 100% compatible in some places down under. Maybe Microsoft has this version of TweakUI for XP only, for a good reason. A reason that you neglect and you still prefer to use the XP powertoy, instead the one made specifically for your OS version.
When I double clicked Tweak UI setup, it says “welcome to the TweakUI for Windows XP”. It is not supported on older OSes and I suggest you should not use it, if you are still running Win2k.
Are the other utilities compatiable with Win2K?
Specifically:
Open Command Window Here
CD Slide Show Generator
Virtual Desktop Manager
HTML Slide Show Widard
Webcam Timershot
