Service Pack 1 is now available for download in MyQNX section of QNX.com. SP1 addresses critical issues in virtual memory management and embedded (NOR) flash file systems. It also incorporates maintenance fixes to both the Momentics tools and the Neutrino operating system – addressing issues in the IDE, command line tools, OS, Filesystem, and Networking components.

Just a question to the QNX users who visit OSnews:
Do any of you use the system for day-to-day word processing?
I know that 90% of QNX users are either device developers or otherwise involved in “realtime” coding for hardware-specific applications … but do any of you (also) use QNX for everyday tasks like writing and printing a letter?
Yes! You can use AbiWord for word processing. I use Phedit because its more minimalist. It has Firefox. thunderbird, etc. Spiffy stuff.
USB support is tricky for anything more than a mouse.
I couldn’t get my scroll button to work .. so even mices arent supported fully.

Now, a year or 2 ago there were a noncommercial edition of QNX
available for download for free .

Your scrollwheel didn’t work? How odd… Mine is working just fine! And it’s an usb mouse! What kind of mouse do you have?

For 6.3.0, the nice folks at QNX decided to remove the sound drivers for the two cards I actually have in my machine (a SB Live! and Yamaha Digital-XG).
Kind of makes running the OS pointless now.

Those were renoved because they’re moving targets; the specs are constantly changing and QSSL was devoting needed resources trying to keep up. That said, many other cards work really well and can be gotten on the cheap.
Mind telling me how the yamaha digital-xg is a moving target when yamaha has stopped manufacturing them? The specs for the card are available from the alsa website:

As for the SB Live! While I understand that newer versions differ from previous versions (ie, the Dell Live! is a different chipset, the 24-bit ones are different chipsets), it still seems stilly to remove support for working cards. How about including them as a separate download with the warning that they may not work on new versions of the SB Live?
