eXpert Zone reports: “A few days ago, on 11th january, Fabien quietly released an updated version of the BeOS Developer’s Edition. The new version, v2.1.22, features a whole set of updated drivers, applications and fixes to common BeOS problems. Screenshot, and the original homepage (in French).”
Looks good…whats that app in the upper left corner?
Probably one of the many launcher apps available on bebits.com.
Will this edition of BeOS boot on an AMD64? I couldn’t get the “Max Edition” to boot properly.
Just curious. I’ve always been a fan of BeOS…
Both should have booted if you had the kernel patch (depends on version but DE had the patch from the start). Might post on the beos forums and ask for ideas.
Very interesting. I shall have to try this on my laptop… Every new BeOS compilation gives me hope that one will work on my laptop.
They should fix the spelling though.
I thought the screenshot’s name meant the GUI is lame, until I discovered it was running LAME lol…
besides kernel patch (inluded in MAX, DE and Zeta) you should disble BIOS calls in SAFE mode boot options. And then set this option permanent in kernel settings file
Has anyone been able to successfully burn the install cd that will then actually work?
Haven’t tried this version, but I am running earlier DevEd daily with all the hardware working… *however* I had to disable SMP support (multiprocessing in safe mode boot menu), otherwise the system won’t boot. Not that there is much use for SMP with one processor anyway. Definitely pays to check out those safe mode options!
Fabien Lusseau states on his homepage that this release is aimed at those who speak french.
Corey, try burning the image with Knoppix.
is there a complete changelog ?!?!
anyone notice the logo they “borrowed” from beos max on the Be Button?
The App is LNLAUNCHER — http://bebits.com/app/877
I have been using it for years, great app!
If anyone tries this on an older Dell Lattitude, please let me know how it goes.

If you’re having troubles or questions about BeOS, install and run a BeShare compatible client. BeShare is a rudimentary chat program… sort of like a 1-channel IRC server
BeOS – BeShare: http://bebits.com/app/1330
MacOS – JavaShare*: http://www.varnernet.com/javashare/download.html
Win – Unizone: http://www.raasu.org/tools/windows/
linux – Unizone: http://www.raasu.org/tools/linux/
*JavaShare will run on any java enabled OS.
How old of a Latitude? I’ve run BeOS on almost all Latitudes from P1 to early PIII, and the worst you get is no sound. Other hardware works.
It’s nice to see all the efforts to keep some BeOS distro up to date. Indeed there is happening a lot with drivers. Still though, now with kernelpatches here and there and specific Bios settings BeOS has become a bit more tricky to run and use.
Looking from the status on the Haiku-OS page the kernel has made giant leaps in development and maybe we’ll start seeing some completely new distro soon which is more bleeding edge =)))
still… I don’t expect this to happen before summer…
