These are very good news.
I might try the 0.3 release when they make it. It’s starting to look really good. They can already run a few non-trivial apps (Quake2, AbiWord) so hopefully 0.3 might be relatively usable!
A few items seen on eBay :
MS-DOS 6 : $25
Windows 95 full version : $16.50
Windows NT 4.0 Workstation : $14.69
Windows 2000 Professional : $29.99
For less than $100, I can get legal copies of all the old Windows OS that I want. Now, apart from the ReactOS developers, why would anyone be interested in using the 0.x version of a Windows NT clone ?
Because its free? I don’t mean beer.
Yes you are.
Is MS-DOS 6 getting updated and security/bug fixed? Windows 95? NT 4.0? And do you think Windows 2000 will have eternal support?
ReactOS is licensed under GPL and you can obtain the source code. Can you say the same for Windows no matter what version?
So yes, you are missing quite a bit actually.
“Good work, ReactOS team!”
I concur! I can actually see e.g. small businesses using ReactOS instead of Windows in a few years, just as I can see them using Linux.
Absolutely!
Great Work ReactOS team!
An amazing amount of work goes into this. Everyone involved ought to be VERY proud.
I am very excited about this. I think I’ll give the livecd a try and hopefully the .3 release will something and I will want to install and start playing with. Great work!
I am forced to use specific windows programs for work. I would love to use React OS on my laptop or possibly as a NT subsystem on linux/freebsd in the future once the new dual core chips start hitting the market.
Good Job ReactOS team gonna start messing with it.
well actually there is some sourcecode of win. leaking around.. but that’s not quite GPL so you better not touch it…
it’s the ideology that matters – i know i could get win.versions for cheap but i don’t wanna support microsoft.
go on ROS – guess i’ll have to test this release too… it always worked, although slowly, on my Linux/PPC using qemu
Are there any plans to port ReactOS to Xen?
When you see how much has been accomplished reactos in such a short period

and the 0.3.0 plans

If longhorn is without a clear shipdate much longer this could be my next win upgrade.
So how close is this to a usable product? Will it run OO.o? Firefox? Thunderbird? Java? Microsoft Office 2000? Just what are the capabilities of this OS so far?
I like what I see . . .
In some months you will be able to run firefox and openoffice (for example), and other good software. In some months mainstream drivers will work ok, in some months, it will be stable and fastest. Just see the time guidelines and you’ll see.
There is yet some DirectX code from Wine, also.
I expect to use it as my main OS in about half and a year or so. I can’t assure anything, but I am sure this will rock.
nice work React OS team.
i just might have to try it out
