there is a page with details. But for now one visible change i noticed that there are two simple new method for Strings. isEmpty() and contains() i think. selamlar.
Hope they will fix it this time. If they do, Java could play an important role in migrating Windows desktops to Linux based ones, e.g. Suns own JDS. This is the time to fix this.
i would also like to see full screen linux support with java as time moves on java gaming is getting more and more viable, i just think sun should fix this as they are losing ground.

Uhm – use the Lightweight Java Game Toolkit then ?
I think that the most important thing is a Perfect Windows XP Swing theme. I don’t know why Sun spends considerable resources on some other minor features. There are many “lightweight” GUI toolkits that emulate Windows much better, it should be possible in Java.
The early access edition of Mustang was released 2-3 weeks ago!
No, actually there have been four Early Access releases until now, and the first one was released to the community one month ago. Sun releases one roughly once per week. And with a license that’s quite scary – make sure you read it before clicking the download link. Yup, it’s really important.
I’m sorry to say, but I have to agree with Giovani. I really fail to see how this qualifies as front page news.

…wasn’t this known as Mustnag? 😉
He basically says that these are bug fixes. Why go to 6.0? Am I missing something?
No, this is the base of J2SE 6. this is not an alpha release. just the beginning. it will include quite a lot of functionlaity changes soon.
there will be bug fix release of J2SE 5 too AFAIK.
The real news is that first patch of 5.0 (namely 5.0_01) is out. Try it out, NOW!
I saw this release a while back and then I looked around a bit to see what is actually in this. I couldn’t really find anything.
Does anyone have an idea which improvements are going to make it into 6, tentative though it may be?
When the release schedule is?

For about four years it have been impossible to use non US keyboards and locales. Certain dead key letters won’t type in Linux.

I’d rather like to see Sun focus on completing the J2EE 1.5 spec than giving us 2 new String methods…
