This article covers the Migration Assistant, one of the major new features, and propbably one of the most useful and time-saving.
From the article, it states: “The most interesting about Migration Assistant is its built-in ‘intelligence’. For example, Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro and all the other Pro applications by Apple need Pro system extensions and support files. If you chose to migrate these applications, Migration Assistant will automatically also migrate all these supporting files. “…
Does Migration Assist allow you to select individually which applications to migrate over and which data?
For example, say I want to migrate all of my Java code off one machine to another but I don’t want to migrate an old version of Eclipse that I used to develop that Java code. Is that possible?
It’s been a while since I’ve seen the videos of this, but if I remember correctly it lets you check what all you want to migrate. As far as moving files around though, it’s just as easy to move them over a network if need be. We’ll see I guess.
As I just bought my powerbook, and no one will give me a straight answer as to how far back Apple goes for free upgrades. Not that I won’t pay for it eventually, but it does determine when i get it.
Usually you get the free upgrade if you buy your computer after they announce a shipping date, which I don’t think they’ve done yet. All they’ve said is the first half of 2005.
Amazon.com *might* have inadvertantly spilled the beans a few weeks back. (They’ve since corrected this.)
Anyhow, 10.4 was listed with a ship date of 4/30/2005.
