Perl has always borrowed ideas from other languages. Sure, the new regular expressions are similar to the parse dialect, but they actually improved on it in the translation. As a REBOL programmer (among other languages), I don’t mind this at all. Perl 6 also borrows heavily from Ruby, Icon and several other languages, as well as the languages that Perl 5 and before borrowed from.
As for who cares, I do. Perl 6 is finally shaping up into an acceptable language – I don’t consider any prior Perl to be so. I look forward to seeing how it develops.
