If you “attend” Sun Microsystems’ “Web Event” you will receive a Solaris Express Software DVD and other info. We’re no sure what constitutes attendance, but it’s free, and you can sign up now for an email reminder.

Is this available to non-US residents?
…and sign up for one of Sun’s community membership programs, and complete the online offer form.
Also, it does say you get a free dvd, but what about shipping costs?
Although I’m not sure it was of the same kind of this one, since it was a real event that was broadcasted. Anyway, as far as I remember, attendance means to log into the event website, open and read (or pass by) a few related pages about the products, plus watching the avaliable streaming. I believe that just open it, watch a few seconds and close it afterwards it’s just fine.
That said, I never received the Java Desktop System CD that they promised. Maybe they decided international shipping was too expensive for a free CD?
I believe so.
From the terms (to the right on the page following at that link):
“This offer is not available to Sun employees or residents of countries currently subject to U.S. embargo (including Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan and Syria).”
So unless you are in one of those countries, I guess it is for you
I received my cd that I got from “attending” one of there web events. I live in The US so the international thing might be the problem
…although I will be starting Uni on the 19th, so I might not have the chance to ‘attend’.
I want to try out libumem (slab allocator for applications). I think this might be available in the Solaris 9 download, but it would be nice to have a DVD 😉
Hmm well i rather have CDs i suppose because my SUNs don’t even have a DVD player..
Oh yes, here’s a catch, depending on how you see it:

I read this title expecting it to be a Free CD as in licensed by GPL. Can the headline be updated to the more correct, “Free As In Beer Solaris DVD?” That would be much preferable.
I have to second the person who said they never received their last “promotional” CD…
I registered for and “attended” a web event for a *FREE CD* of a prior Solaris release….
The CD never came (Yes, I’m from the U.S.). The only thing that I got was a years worth of junkmail from SUN Microsystems et al….
It is for everyone in the world. You must only complete the form when Web Event starts.

>Beer Solaris DVD?” That would be much preferable
That would be an obfuscation, not a clarification.
Please stop hijacking words of current and established use and stop abusing deliberately semantics because it suits your or someone’s political agendas, thanks.

I’m really gonna read that. Who doesn’t like HTML mail? Everyone loves it! Thanks Sun…
