One of the benifits you get when migrating from Linux Kernal 2.4 to 2.6 is improved stability. The process for loading kernel modules in and out of the kernel was improved. This article highlights and shares information on that and the other differences between the Linux kernels 2.4 and 2.6 including new features of Linux Distributions for POWER5-based systems, SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (SLES 9), and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 3.

s/Kernal/Kernel/ ?
I’m not convinced that you would load/unload kernel modules all day on a server, and the 2.4 kernel is more stable right now, even if 2.6 has a better architecture.
i am sure the 2.6.x series kernels are better than 2.4.x but i see no reason to upgrade to ie, maybe someday when it comes standard on my next upgrade of Linux i will use it then
I plan on getting a G5 to run a Linux only environment. I’m doing this because I like the 8GB RAM availability, the dual processor design and the PowerPC architecture.
I want to know if Linux runs on 32bit or 64bit mode on the PowerPC, or G5 in particular? Any other experiences or advice is welcome.
