Apple filed its quarterly report (SEC form 10-Q) with the Securities and Exchange Commission Thursday. In the filing, which is available as a 86-page PDF document, Apple discloses several details on net and unit sales, its retail stores, education sales, lawsuits and more.
Ipod sales up 298% from last year!
I think Apple has a winner here, and it by far outsell the Macs, maybe is time for Apple to reconsider is strategy.
Apple could provide “gadget solutions” for Windows and Linux and shift focus away from the G5.
If Apple doesn’t some competitor will figure it out and shredd apple to pieces, is Sony listening?
Great news all around!
Apple has made lots of profit for last couple years. Gladly they also use their profit to improve OS X. Some might complain about upgrade price, but they really do _improve_ OS X, as long as they do, I don’t feel bad paying for new OS X’es. Go Apple and keep innovation goin’!.
umm, did you even read the report other than the iPod part? they had increases in all segments (except the iMac for good reasons, like running out of G4 iMacs) so it would be kinda stupid to be a “gadget” maker for windows PCs.
“So where’s the highlight in that ?!! It’s a filing which means it’s a filing.”
It’s a highlight because it highlights the main points of the filing. You can download the whole thing as a pdf if you want more than the highlight. Or if you want a really quick review…
All sales up, especially iPod, except iMac sales, which were down due to running out of them and the new ones with G5s not being ready (IBM couldn’t make enough).
Apple sometimes tends to be a bit MS like. The problem is that MS has a huge user base that Apple doesn’t have. So Monopoly behaviour is not good for a small company.
Here is what I mean, Ipod is an Apple product that non-mac user can and do enjoy. There is profit in it. And that should be the goal of Apple. Instead of Mac advocacy or desktop domination, Ipod is an attainable goal which will benefit apple and thus OsX as well.
Before this Apple always wanted to push products that were almost exclusively mac-centric. Right now there is an opportunity for Apple, as a company, to cash in in other markets and platforms (windows and linux for instance).
I know people that buy ipod but will never buy a mac, nothing wrong with that, their money is just as good. So why not market products to this other platforms?
Believe the macs are not as profitable or as mainstream right now as Ipod are. This is showing the way to Apple’s success. OsX users of course also benefit. That is why the focus should be shifted *away* from Macs. I do not say drop the Macs, but shift the focus so that Ipod and other like gadgets are more platform independent. There is lots of money to be had outside the limited mac market, and Apple could cash in on it.
