At next week’s LinuxWorld show in San Francisco, Xandros will preview the Xandros Desktop Management Server (xDMS), the first in a new series of servers that will roll out by the end of next year. Xandros’ future server line-up will include file, mail, and FTP servers, among others, said Xandros Chairman and CTO Dr. Frederick Berenstein, who remains bullish over the future of desktop Linux, too.

How about a drop-in Exchange replacement Xandros?
Check out egroupware.
It even works with Outlook through a plug-in. And of course, it supports Kontact.
Unfortunately, the plug-in culture won’t cut it. Same as Evolution which supports Exchange through a plug-in. People want stuff to just work….
… and plugins just don’t work by definition, right?
What kind of nonsese is this? You install a plug-in and you are talking to egroupware. Egroupware is very feature complete and reaching the configurability and features of the SAP line of products, well beyond what Exchange offers today.
Of course, you woudn’t know that unless you try it. Why don’t you at least use the egroupware demo to form an opinion?
Sadly, generally plugin’s don’t “just work”, they’re another layer of complexity and of configuration to go through, and considering the cost per hour of a competent systems implementer they can make the maths of economically competing with Exchange somewhat harder.
People need things to just work with their existing software, not be dependent on interpreters, translators and plugins.

That’s total crap. What proof or even anecdotal evidence can you offer to support your claim that generally plugins don’t “just work”? I use several programs with plugin architectures and they all work fine. If plugins were really such a mess then no one would use them.
So I guess the multi-billion dollar application called “Photoshop” with is “plugins” is a waste of time. Thanks for proving that you’re nothing more than a flame bait laying troll who couldn’t manage a network even if the whole thing was self correcting and maintaining.
