Delphi 8 sucks. It really needs a reality check. Internal web server crashes everywhere and speed has gone to nowhere.
Second problem is that most of .NET is not applicable in pascal(Delphi) standard, and sometimes crashes with original specs, where there is a class in original .NET specs, here is a record???
it worked without problem with me , but im sticking with delphi 7,
as those .net compiler warnings annoys me too much, and im not ready for this .net yet ;p
I feel at home with C# after several years of Delphi progamming. I think it’s because author of C# is the same author that created Delphi ๐
Delphi.Net is OK for moving previous Delphi code to .Net framework, but I don’t think Delphi will be as popular as C# to create NEW applications.
We’re having to move our code development to cross-platform tools (mac, win, lin), but there donesn’t seem to be anything near as good as Delphi 7 in ease of use and the ability to rapidly produce applications.
I agree. If I wan’t to create application for .NET I prefer the C# language instead of Object Pascal.
Yes, D7 is very nice, but there are many bug in D7, especially in CLX part.
[I agree. If I wan’t to create application for .NET I prefer the C# language instead of Object Pascal.]
but still Delphi’s IDE & VCL is better then C# with Windows.forms IMHO.
also they stated some TeamB blogs that delphi9 will be mix of w32+net+(maybe kylix) compilers ..
VCL may seem to be richer than Windows.Forms, but I downloaded SharpDevelop and I felt at home with it from the first moment.
And a plus is that component parameters are coded within the .cs file, not in separate .dfm like Delphi. If you had to edit the component by hand (Alt-F12 at a form and edit its text) in Delphi, you will see this plus ๐ C# is a component-oriented language, just like Delphi. The author is the same, once again. I think the author feels good after MS purchases him out of Borland.
There is an old interview with him back in August 2000, http://windows.oreilly.com/news/hejlsberg_0800.html
i tried SharpDevelop in early version ( there was no visual disigne) , but i liked C# syntax as u said about the author
but while borland provides a super rich IDE + fast compiler + .NET and with many advantages of delphi, i woudn’t swith to C# ๐
just my own opinion anyway.
some borland team blogs

borland is dead since delphi5 released, don’t waste money
on any product of borland.
yes, but sometime They did some great products …
–> Jbuilder 9 (don’t know about JBX)
–> Turbo Pascal 3.0 ;o)
–> Turbo Prolog (re ;o) )
