It’s been already a week after GnomeFiles.org went live (my, time flies when you work on something night and day) and we have the first statistics in: so far, there are more than 150 applications submitted, more than 3,800 downloads and about 250,000 web pages served. That last number is actually better than I expected, as it seems that Gnomefiles.org is already able to do 15,000 page views per day the last few days without any major linkage from other sites (it went up to 60,000 for the day when Slashdot linked on Sunday). The prizes will be handed out soon to the winning developers so if you haven’t submitted your app yet, do it before the end of the week to become eligible.
IMHO, the standard GNOME CSS templates look a lot cleaner than the somewhat busy gnomefiles (reminds me of bebits too much)
>reminds me of bebits too much
The front-end is a BeBits clone, at its heart (I love BeBits). The developer’s backend is different though.
The bebits interface is very easy navigated and logic. I think it suits gnomefiles.org, but I still prefere bebits
I was browsing through the site and the Helix player caught my eye (ouch!) Well, the screen shots page (https://player.helixcommunity.org/2004/draft/screens.html) looks pretty neat. I want to findout what desktop Env. is shown there (with all those cool panels etc.)

FVWM maybe?
“FVWM maybe?”
seems correct

It’s DR16 with the winter theme by rephorm, as seen here: http://rephorm.com/rephorm/img/Winter-e16-3.png
I still think the sidebar should be “Most Downloaded” and “Highest Rated”. At least change the “Best Voted” to “Highest Rated.”
at the bottom of the image in https://player.helixcommunity.org/2004/draft/screens.html
there is a bar with thumbnails of windows ??

I am not sure what’s right word for app page like if you are view Liferea page (http://www.gnomefiles.org/app.php?soft_id=42 ). I see no category in there, so it would be nice to add category in there. Sometimes, when clicked one of app in the ‘Latest Software’ and later I came back and I wasn’t sure where it is in the category for this app. Yes, I know there has the search engine, but still… 🙂
I love GnomeFiles already, because I am a GTK/GNOME user and there are a lot of apps that I don’t know they exist. The sourceforge.net and freshmeat.net don’t work very well for the straight GTK/GNOME user; it’s just too general and not easy to find.
This is already there. Look at the sidebar: “Listed in these Subcats”.
Thanks, I never touch the scroll when I view the app page. It’s why I never have noticed that was in the bottom of scroll.
Anyway the related link on that page doesn’t work. Its only for that page AFAIK.
Fixed. The developer messed up the two fields, he put the URL in the “description” field and the description on the URL field.
I’m not sure but I think I <3 Gnomefiles.org
Looks like e17 stuff to me.
I don’t know how did i get to gnomefiles two days ago, but the first thing that comes to my mind its that gnomefiles was the equivalent to kde-apps on gnome, am i wrong?
If i am, exist some kind of website with the same purpose as kde-apps on gnome?
Thanks.
Yes, it is the equivelant, however ours is modeled around BeBits. No, there is no other site that does that yet, this is exactly why we created it in the first place.
Then congratulations Eugenia, the best of luck to you and your new project.
I hope that gnomefiles.org becomes a starting point to look, find and review apps for the gnome desktop.
You need to add Rhythmbox to gnomefiles. It is my favorite music app.
http://www.rhythmbox.org/
It is up to its developers to do that.
Gnomefiles.org has improved a lot visually in a week, and added to the quality of the apps there, it’s fantastic. Great work!!!!!!
gnomefiles.org is very nice and very useful. I found a handful of applications that did things I needed for a long time now.
Hi,
Can anybody recommend a good burning app for gnome/gtk ?
It should be able to burn CD’s and DVD’s, much like K3B for KDE.
I have been looking for this for quite some time now.
There is none that I would call “good”. Coaster and Optymist will be good when and if they are finished. Atm, the gtk+ 1.x ones that out there, pretty suck in may ways.
