With increased laptop, notebook, and Tablet PC sales, Microsoft recognizes the value of improving mobile PC use. Longhorn will emphasize a number of mobility scenarios that application developers should be aware of as they design Longhorn-compatible software.Keeping in mind power management, docking/undocking (including data synchronization), and network awareness will be key in building and deploying Longhorn applications for mobile PCs. thats one of the things i totally love about osx, and it’s probably the only reason why apple’s strict one-mouse-button strategy could be any good; i kinda experienced that having just one mouse-button, and having a OS which is totally usable with such a limited device, gives a laptop a very increased usability. working with my iBook is so much faster in real mobility-situations than working with a friends WinXP Laptop.

One mouse button? Hrmph. I’ve got 5 mouse buttons on my Intellimouse Optical and every one of them are customizable to almost any command and any keystroke. I use them religiously in every application (sometimes customzing it per application) and couldn’t imagine living without them.
I mean, if you like having only 1, more power to you. Different strokes for different folks
Only five mouse buttons?
A real man would be able to handle at least two per finger!

The more the better! Do you know of any mice with more than 5 that are customizable at the application level? Would love to have buttons for copy/paste.
That’s great news!!!
I’m downloading to check if they include MFC/ATL.

well i *do* have a sexy logitech 4-button mouse, too. and i love it, especially when using exposé, but i was talking about mobility situations, like in the bus, in the car, in the train, somewhere in the park, or stuff like that.. i find it quite difficult to use a mouse while sitting in the bus, first question would be: “ma’m, may i put my mousepad on ya chest?” – and i don’t even wanna try that

I have it. It’s called ‘middle button’.
No wonder your laptop with one mouse button works faster than your friend’s with two. It should work twice as fast because you don’s spend time clicking the other button.
But seriously apple should introduce mousewheel to their mouses. Once you start using it, you can’t do without it.
hmm… Mobility-Aware Longhorn Applications…
take that buzzword generators!
