Joe Shaw from Ximian released recently Open Carpet 0.2: This new version fixes some problems with multiple channels and now requires that the user supply the ChannelID directive in the channel config. Hopefully, enthusiasts around the world will join Joe in the developments of Open Carpet to add more functionality and support for more package formats (e.g. Slackware’s, Solaris’ or FreeBSD’s) that will result to a nice, portable, package management front-end application for Unix and Linux.
I like Red Carpet. It’s quick and easy and it doesn’t hold up like RH’s up2date. Ximian makes good software.
It says on the web site that the version is 2.0 not 0.2 .
Is that correct or am I missreading something?
Open Carpet (a redcarpet server) reached version 0.2. Ximian’s redcarpet client is version 2.0.
It would be great if there was a native port of both Red Carpet and Open Carpet for Mac OS X. Would be a great front and back end for the OS X porting groups (fink, DarwinPorts, etc). In particular it would provide an easy to use software installation/adminstration setup for an OS X user who isn’t a typical open source user.
RedCarpet does not start with gtk+ 2.4, anyone know about a development snapshot/workaround to fix this?
It should do – GTK 2.4 is supposed to be backwards compatible. What error do you get?
Hm, looks like python is involved. Don’t remember exactly (using windows now), but it was rather short, something like ” Could not find gtk” and a python error. I don’t expect that to help much though.
