SkyOS is now able to handle and display text from all languages. Because of the recently introduced keyboard/UNICODE mapping and UTF8 handling in the entire GUI and applications you can type and view text from languages like English, German, Chinese and more. Check the news & shots here.
Almost looks like people have lost interest… or maybe they just don’t want to argue about the same things over and over.
Me being German, I appreciate localization very much. I just hope things like icon names are not hardcoded, but will be localized as well. They’re still English on the secon screenshot.
I think that OSNews.com posted about 15 news stories at once, and SkyOS just got looked over. Also, in the broad spectrum of SkyOS announcements, this wasn’t a very major one (although it was a very IMPORTANT one).
We’ll get more comments when we say something exciting.
Icon names will be localized too. Currently I’m translation all applications to german. (dialogs, messageboxes, menus, strings, …) If this is finished, icons and taskbar will be translated.
This is great! brings in a whole new huge group of users. New SkyOS news beats the hell out of the endless YALD reviews and Linux zealot rants that this site generates.
I totally agree, there’s way too many linux articles around here, lately the trend was lindows reviews, dozens of them…
People should submitt more reviews about alternative OSes like plan9, skyos and stuff like that.

I’d say that most people who are interested in SkyOS at the moment can handle an English OS quite well. But it’s important for the future of the OS.
