Jayacard is the open source smart card operating system focused on contactless products. Some of the supported norms include ISO 7816-3/4/8, ISO 14443, ISO 15693 and x509. Current version is a cleanroom development that has been ported to some secure microprocessor under NDA ; but opensource roadmap is to have this software also freely available for flashable microprocessor like the ATmega161 from Atmel.
A name with a typo ?
“Only OSS is completely exposed to verification… ” – from the project site. I guess NSA would be surprised by the claim.
Not a typo I think : ‘jaya’ means success in malaysian ; jayacard will be certainly a success card …
In Chinese, it means “artificial tooth”, “adding pressure” or “domestified ducks”.
Interestingly, the web site claims that you can’t use the GPL’d code with hardware used under an NDA. It might be a quirk of smartcards, but I’m pretty sure there’s aspects of the PCs I run Linux on that are covered by NDA, and it hasn’t stopped me using GPL’d code…
Is it down to the nature of the beast, or is it that the Jayacard guys have misunderstood the GPL and are trying to create revenue stream where it doesn’t exist?
