Members of the “xbox-windows project” recently announced that Windows CE .NET is now booting on the Xbox. “Currently, we have a partial BSP for CE .NET 4.20, and working PCI, USB, Display, and Mouse drivers. Most of the “important” parts of the BSP are done, however some features are still lacking or bug ridden. We also have a simple, preliminary bootloader based on xbeboot from the xbox-linux project. With these in place, CE loads and runs properly, but is not yet very useful.” WindowsForDevices contacted the project’s originator, who prefers to be known by the pseudonym “Artifex”, to gain insight into the project’s origins, goals, and plans for the future. The result is this interview.
Yes, you’re one darling. With statements like this: “we began to evaluate Pocket PC as a potential replacement platform for a rapidly aging Palm/Handspring solution.”
Palm is in a better position than MS for PDA, watches and other cool gadgets. Palm only does this stuff all day long, all year long.
Is the only question I would ask the developers.
Isn’t CE.net designed for PDA’s?
Oops that was 2 questions
and this was a second post because I can’t edit the above
Windows Mobile(based on CE 3) is for PDAs
CE.Net is for embedded devices of all kinds.
And why would any one want to put CE on an XBox? It already runs a modified Windows 2000.

Proof of concept, aka, “portability” or simply for shits and giggles. Why does it matter anyway? maybe the original author was curious to see what he could do, then he met other like minded people and thus it was made possible.
Something that would be nice is if QNX RTP was made available on the XBOX. Its a great little operating system, non-bloated meaning it should run quite nicely on a machine with 64MB RAM and it supports “out of the box” recompiling of most *NIX/*BSD applications.
Anyone know if there is a move to port any other operating systems? FreeBSD would another nice one
From the article: “the “xbox-windows project” is an effort to bring Microsoft Windows operating systems to the Microsoft Xbox hardware platform”
Let me get this straight….They hacked a Windows box in order to get it to run Windows?

lol, that’s hillarious man
=)
Yeah, I guess you are right. It can be a lot of fun.
I understand the perfectly legit reason of “because it can be done”, “because it is our hobby”, etc.
I am just asking, as a user, if someone knows of some cool things I might want to try a fully functional WinCE a the the result of their effort (if they get that) on my XBox for?
