For all of you who plan to use the web for your holiday shopping, I wanted to let you know that we made some updates to the OSNews Price Comparison Shop. As always, you can find it on the left side of the site, under the ad or at osnews.pricegrabber.com. We now have a search field that will take you directly to a comparison of prices for the item that you enter. If you can’t find what you’re looking for at PG, you may want to try NewMobileComputing’s Price Comparison, which is powered by Dealtime.For your convenience, here are the search fields for the two price comparison engines:

… is one of the most popular products that OSNews readers have shopped in the last few weeks???
can someone please explain this?
geez
so since you will not be able to buy it, and it is still the most stable 9x version of windows and there are still drivers for hardware made for it, people want to buy it while the buying is good.
Another option is to go to http://www.pricewatch.com. No, it’s not the place with airline tickets and bad Shatner commercials (that would be priceline.com). The listings at pricewatch are sorted in order of total price including shipping & handling.
I am done with them. sure you can get cheaper stuff from them, but I have been burned by stuff I bought on there so much that I have decided that pricegrabber is a much better place to look since it has vendor reviews and ratings which you can search by. I will pay a higher price if I can get my item from a reputable vendor.
Try to use the provided links, this way you help osnews.
Um, if you have been “burned by them”. You’ve been burned by the vendor you bought from, not by pricewatch. Pricewatch only lists vendors, it makes no claims as to whether or not the vendor is reputable. That’s why if I ever buy anything from a vendor listed on pricewatch, I check resellerratings.com first.
how the heck were you burned by them. They find you the prices for stuff. And at the least they are very useful for finding new online shops. Since thats one of the major problems in online shopping. Not having a clue of what online sites are out there. And I mean real ones, not some guy with a small little side business.
If you went with the shady company that had the lowest price thats your problem. If you went with the place that had a great deal and didn’t check out what they were selling good, say they were selling overclocked cpus, or ram or something like that, thats you fault. Pricewatch is great for finding stuff and getting a idea of somethings real street value. also has a way better interface then say pricegrabber, that is, it’s extremely simple.
Before buying online with any company on pricewatch, you should probably check out: http://www.resellerratings.com
Whats is MS 98se on the list. Its at EOL come 12/15 ? Just curious.
Anybody have any ideas on where to find a decent, cheap laptop in the $800 or less range? I’m a bit partial to thinkpads because I love the trackpointer thingie(really don’t like touchpads), but I’m open to anything. I’m a little wary of ebay.
im actually using this. and prefer this to most linuxes and other versions of windows;
because its great even with just 64mb ram and 450 mhz k2 ;
also there is a really good choice of software available;
adn forme since im in school, i get it for free:)
what else do i ask for?

Froogle is a good product search engine (although beta). I think USB drives are going to be one of the more successful techie gifts for the season. I have a Lexar USB 2.0 256 meg and I use it all the time. They make 1GB versions but they are out of my price range.
