Trolltech today announced the release of Qt, version 3.3.0 beta 1.Trolltech also iIntroduces the Qt Solutions: they provide platform and industry specific tools and components, as well as cutting-edge components that are too new to include directly in the Qt framework releases.
I’ve been waiting for this for ages!
SOAP: The SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) component implements this XML-based standard for describing how to exchange messages. The Qt SOAP component provides web service support with version 1.1 of the SOAP protocol.
Interesting. Since we’re now seeing that the latest buzz word as “web technologies”, one could start using SOAP for inter-application communication. Any comments on that idea?
MFC migration tool: The Qt/MFC Migration Framework tool assists in the migration of existing Win32 or MFC applications to the Qt toolkit.
I would love to see the ability to open a VS IDE project file in QT Designer and for all the GUI file (which handles the GUI information) converts over to QT and an easy guide which notes in the code itself the parts that need to be changed and possible replacement QT provides.
If the conversion is fast and simple, hopefully commercial software companies will start moving their applications over.
As for the rest of the enhancements, it will be an interesting situation once things as HTML rendering is added. If it means that we can have grand unified, multiplatform API which works on Linux, *BSD’s, MacOS and Windows, plus a whole heap of other platforms, it will be a great situation where by a developer can start using QT rather than tying themselves to a particular platform.

Makes sense in the same way killing birds with a cannon does.
So, this actually means that Qt applications will be able to communicate seamlessly with .NET applications, or? If so, this is quite interesting.

Does it provide an updated widgets for OS X new look/feel (e.g. new tab style)
Yes it could mean that. But knowing microsoft they’ll have there own ‘special’ flavor of SOAP/XML protocols that wont let anything else talk it. Kinda like their fabled .doc format being in xml format, only problem is only MS apps can read that format.
However, if the above isn’t true this could be a very interesting addition.

Little bit overkill maybe?
Nope. Qt still doesn’t do them tabs correctly.
