Although as a whole, this year has been a good one for RedHat, things aren’t looking too good as of late. Take a look at the post SuSE-Novell deal and you’ll see their stocks fell like a rock. It’s still going down, but not nearly as bad as at first. I can only hope they can turn it around (I’ve got more than pride riding on it). http://chart.yahoo.com/c/3m/r/rhat.gif
It might even be 4 quarters in a row. Two of the quarters they had 0 per share, but that’s because of so many shares, profit is dilluted. But overall they made a profit.
I think Fedora might be a little rough around the edges for a while, but it will get better.
…is understand the world of business. It is nice to see that linux companies are finally catching on to the idea of branding, marketing and thinking well about what they are selling. IBM and SuSE do it better, though. Red Hat wants to be a business. They need to do the things that are requisite.
You people that scold RH for trying to have a profitable business! How funny is that. What? You thought RH would just pay it’s staff on pizza and beer or that they should work for free out of the kindness of their hearts? RH needs to make money too. They should be commended for creating a business out of a model that requires your main products source code to be freely availale let alone the direct competition from other Linux companies. Comparing RH to MS…please!!! Look at all the things RH has contributed to Open Source. Microsoft….HA…..they wouldn’t touch the Open Source community with a 100ft. pole. Just my $.02.
What are you guys talking about? Everyone’s saying we should “stop bashing RedHat”. All I see is either praise or straight facts on this page… Kudos to them for creating a viable profitable business that gives back to the community.
And away from many of the faithful

In February of this year, their stock was at the $5 mark. Now it’s at what – $13? Major fluctuations in stock price are commonplace for RedHat.
Actually, I thought RedHat was profitable for the past 3 quarters?
