From Andrenaline Vault: nVidia introduced today the nForce 415-D processor set. The nForce 415-D combines the nForce’s Media and Communications Processor with a new System Platform Processor. The nForce SPP features TwinBank, a 128-bit memory controller architecture providing up to 4.2GB per second of system memory bandwidth; a dynamic adaptive speculative pre-processor for boosting CPU performance; a singlestep memory arbiter for memory efficiency; and a 4X accelerated graphics port for external GPU expansion. The nForce MCP also integrates an audio processing unit with a Dolby Digital 5.1 real-time encoder; StreamThru, enhanced data streaming technology, and a communications suite including support for HomePNA 2.0, 10/100 Ethernet and USB.
Sweet! Looks like nVivia is slowly turning into the sucessor of SGI, at least in the lower market segment.
I’m confused, what is this thing? is it a basic CPU type thing so you could build a whole devise where the major chips, CPU, video, sound are all nVidia. Or is this a CPU like you would have in your desk top or none of the above. I didn’t see anything past what said in the headline.
It is a motherboard chipset, which features sound, networking, video etc in it.
Thanks, nVidia CPU might be fun though
This is great for people who want the fastest chipset as well as the fastest 3D card. Why get built in geforce 2 when you want a geforce 3.
Eventually AMD will integrate the memory controller into the CPU so chipset makers will have to work on more goodies such as 64 bit/66mhz PCI, SMP support, etc
i think soon in the future you wont be seeing video card slots.. but you will be seeing them plugged into a ziff socket right next to the cpu.
Hrmm i wonder why they do this? Maybe there will be some performance gains. But who’s going to port their OS or write new drivers for their OS, just so it wil run on it?
Hrmmm, seems like a dead end. One reason why IBM Compats are so popular is because they provide an easy and cheap way to upgrade! This board will cost a lot, and although may have some CPU cards, it’ll be pretty much shit as soon as the new nVadia or Radion or whatever chipset comes out.
It has an AGP slot so you can plug a new video card in it’s like any built in mother board. it sounds like and improved nForce set hopefully we won’t have to wait as long for it to come out as the other nForce chips.
