Slackware is really great, but there is really a great bug with kernel 2.4.22 with acpi and rp-pppoe. It crashes my system. So had to install kernel 2.4.21.
Has anyone managed to install Gtk-Perl to slackware 9.1 ?
What bugs are there in 2.4.22 regarding acpi? Since I am using 2.4.22 and with acpi, but no problems yet. Just curious so that if I encounter something wried later on, I can blame on the bugs.
Anyway, I’m still running Slack 9.0 (when the gcc 3.2.3, kernel 2.4.22 and samba 3.0.0 came out I recompiled them – I use Slack as a NT Style PDC – and samba 3.0.0 is really great in doing that!).
I think I will wait until gcc 3.3.x and kernel 2.6.x became stable to roll out the whole system upgrade process. 😉

From the change logs I have seen so far, the changes relating to ACPI normally relate to *REALLY* rare behaviour some see. Normally this relates so people using cheap motherboards with poor quality ACPI implementations. From the sounds of it, you have a quality BIOS, meaning, you’ll probably see none of the strange happenings others have seen.
so far the only thing i seen crash in Slack-9.1 is Mozilla ( both the stock 1.4 & 1.5 from linuxpackages.net), and quite frequently at that too, i even run mozilla via a terminal to see if any errors would be displayed and nothing, zip, zilch, it just up & dies like it had a heart attack…
Anyone get Python to work under Gnome 2.4 and Slack 9.1?
There are some really neat programs show in the OSNEWS review of 9.1, a.k.a. The third picture down w/ the clocks and the weather app. I tried for like 6 hours and had all sorts of problems. I did add the ./configure –prefix=/usr

You may want to heed this article. It may fix your sound problems on your Slackware install.
The problem I had was not a kernel issue, it was an audio driver issue and the way the driver was written (didn’t support software mixering).
Plus, I wrote a zillion times, I don’t have that issue anymore, cause I stack another sound card in that box!
in article he is telling you to chmod root:audio /dev/dsp* etc
chmod: invalid mode string: `root:audio’
use chown root:audio /dev/dsp* and so on

Have you tried recompiling your sound drivers? That may fix the problem. Maybe when the next version of Slackware comes out it will have support for the older legacy sound cards.
