“Microsoft and Vodafone are joining forces to extend Web services…”
I think you mean:
“Microsoft and Vodafone are joining forces to embrace & extend Web services…”
Good thing I don’t use Microsoft Products, nor Vodafone. I can’t wait for the days when you’ll need a Palladium enabled cellphone to talk to your friends…. 😕
Grant, get a grip. This is actually a good thing, at least in my opinion: Mobile phones are unusable and Spartan compared to any modern-day computer, and a lot can be done to improve on this.
And don’t worry that you won’t be able to use your cell phone; as always, the OSS community will follow MS, only instead of to the right they look to the left (meaning: Just Kidding!)

They’re Spartan because they’re phones. If you want a computer in your pocket, buy a Bluetooth phone and a PDA to match.
For me, all I want is a phone that I can make calls on. I’ve had a few phones this last year (tried to live with AT&T’s GSM in a rural US area), and while nifty, I’d rather have a phone that doesn’t have quite so many bugs rather than a crappy Java Surfing game.

Oh yes… I can’t wait for the day when I open my monthly phone bill to discover that some little 12 year old bastard sent me a text message that exploited a security flaw in the phone’s OS and has, for the last month, be billing me for all his calls.
Seriously – I bet it happens to someone.

Then don’t buy a siemens c55
It’s funny, when i had my trusty old nokia 3210 i never had a single error, even after i dropped it in the toilet (don’t ask , about a year ago I bought a siemens c55, now I get java exceptions and some times it even locks.
The biggest limitation with ‘mobile devices’ in their size, and that’s a physical limitation that can never really be fixed.
Small Screens = Awful
Big Screens = Great
It’s as simple as that… and I don’t think 14.1inch ‘mobile’ phones are going to be on the market any time soon.
