Version 3i2 of RISC OS Select has been published online this evening by developers RISCOS Ltd., for Select subscribers. The install includes RISC OS 4.37 and this week’s Toolbox release. Select 3i2 is described as the “final release version of Select 3” and is presumably the stabilised online release that will precede the eventual CD distribution in a few weeks. They were probably a load of that because they were so old. The first RISC OS / ARM CPU computers from Acorn came out in 1987… schools tended to hold on to them for a good ten years, so it’s all relative. Back in the 1980s, Acorns were superior in speed, usability and graphics to Amigas and PCs, so they were pretty good back then.
In 1994 Acorn Risc PCs came out… well people still use them today as their everyday computer, so they can’t be too bad.
You can buy Acorn clones today from a company called Castle at http://www.iyonix.co.uk
Anyway, I suspect you’re trolling
Hier in Germany the Risk komputer are very weitspread. I even own a. It is very plessent komputer.

What the h—?
Does something about the mention of the word “RiscOS” bring out the crazies or what?
Hallo Till!
Man, that joke made me laugh so high my girlfriend asked me what was going on!
Well, sticking to the topic, it would be cool to see a comparation between RiscOS and say QNX or Sun Solaris.
Sth like “Why should I buy a RiscOS maschine?” or a platform comparation with prices and models and so on.
Just my .00000001 cent =)
Enjoy life… maybe tomorrow Mr. Bu$h resolves to drop a bomb on my hood and..
well i wish we could get computers in the US the uses the RISCos, but they are far too expensive and i dont see any on ebay
RISC PC frequently turn up on Ebay (often at absurdly low prices) – often less than the equivilent of $100. True you have to add shipping. Keep an eye out (is all I can say), sometimes existing users will update their gear and sell old ones (through ebay or possibly by postings on the comp.sys.acorn newsgroups).
If you do find one (and wish to give it a try), I’d suggest you opt for one with a StrongARM processor and VRAM fitted (the older ones are slow, the StrongARM ones are quite quick). These will cost somewhat more but still much less than a new one.
Later machines such as the Iyonix (using RISC OS 5) are much faster – but because these are new there is little (or no) second user ones available – and new ones are expensive (if you even have an academic interest in it please have a look at http://www.iyonix.com ).
Someone on one of the Acorn newsgroups (comp.sys.acorn.*) got an Iyonix Castle and it was in the US 2 day’s later. That having been said it’s an expensive option. May be better to try a second hand RISC PC with a StrongARM first, if you like what you see you know what to do next
Early RISC OS versions (pre RO 4.XX) have silly limitations, best to ensure that *if* you go for a second hand RPC that it is updated to RO4.02 (or you can fit the ROM’s yourself – ROM’s are available from RISC OS Ltd., http://www.riscos.com ). If you want extra features opt for select which is a subscription version that is frequently updated and softloads over the ROM copy of 4.02.
Best of luck with it.

did they ever make a laptop that will use riscos?
Unfortunately no RISC OS laptops based on ARM hardware have made it to market since the Acorn A4 which is quite old and only available on the second hand market these days.
You can run the Virtual RISCPC emulator from http://www.virtualacorn.co.uk with the latest versions of RISC OS 4 and Select on a laptop. This is a very good piece of software and can be purchased either from Virtual Acorn or bundled with hardware from http://www.microdigital.co.uk (The Alpha Laptop).
Cheers
