As we all anxiously await the release of Linux 2.6, we hear speculations on the final date ranging from early September to late December. A fellow optimist from comhem.se has posted this graph showing predictions based on the kernel’s current rate of progress. It was composed using the compile statistics from John Sherry of OSDL. This chart suggests a release date of the 12th of October.
Didn’t Nostradamus already predict the right release date?
He’s not from comhem.se, that’s just the name of his ISP.
it’s like saying [email protected] is from hotmail.

The only reason I said comhem.se was that his name is mentioned nowhere on the graph or within it’s folder. I take your point though.
it ready and not be like the 2.4 release when Linus marked it as stable just to have more people downloaded it for testing
Will they make a cocoa version, so I can test it on my Mac?
So let me get this straight.. 2.6.0 is ready when there aren’t so many (or 0) errors/warnings during compilation? Just because it can compile without errors/warnings doesn’t make it stable.
I just cant wait for 2.6 kernel. it is the biggest thing next to mars being so close. ::sighs:: anon… nothing is “stable” but it has to be stable enough to work. We’ll see…so far i haven’t had any kernel issues.
2.6 hurry the .. up… i need it for my ppc.
it only matters when companies like redhat, suse, mandrake release it in their distro and provide a support contract with it. I am guessing next spring (march 2004)
That would be a nice birthday present
What would be nice is a Knoppix install that has 2.6
That way people how don’t like compiling kernels could test out how 2.6 works with sid.
Is there a warez site where I can download Linux from?
Yeah! can you imagine? in http://www.kernel.org/ you can get even the “internal testing” versions! those guys have a serious leak there, don’t you think.
I won’t waste a smiley.
The carbon version is available on the apple developer site.
12th of October? No way. Many good things have happened in the 2.6 kernel, but it’s still not for release. For example, look at ISDN support. It’s broken right now.
And thannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn 2.6 kernel is released
2.6 will be released on 14th October IMO
just a guess anyone want to give odds on that ??
Snake
I think 0daywarez.com has a link to it.

That’s exactly what I think. Many drivers are currently broken and they still have a lot of work to do. I prefer them to release it later rather than early and full of bugs that could even require some critical changes (*cough* 2.4 release *cough*).
>> Is there a warez site where I can download Linux from?
Ummmm, ya. Here’s a list
http://www.debian.org
http://www.gentoo.org
http://www.suse.com
http://www.redhat.com
http://www.slackware.org
The best thing about these “warez” sites, you will not get any silly redialers, no porn pop ups, no trojans, and no annoying bs “warez” issues.
Dude, get a clue.
I got Bochs with the DOS image, so I can now run Emacs on OS X. I wish they had it in the Linux emulator.
