Microsoft Corp. has been busy on the Java front recently, with the release of a new version of its Java conversion tool and enhancements to its Java development environment. Microsoft Tuesday announced Version 2.0 of its Java Language Conversion Assistant (JLCA). The JLCA is based on ArtinSoft Inc.’s migration technology for converting Java code to Visual C# .Net code.
nuff said.
What an insightful comment. Once again, you, “CroanoN”, have told us what we could not otherwise decide for ourselves. What a burden for you.
Choice is still good even if (oh god!) it’s MS.
I think Microsoft are doing the right thing here. By allowing Java developers and companies the option to migrate from Java and Solaris / Linux over to .NET and Windows Server 2003.
From what I have read recently
[http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,,1184728,00.asp],
.NET has been a major success and Microsoft will be associating their company name is the .NET moniker as much as possible over the coming years.
Windows 2003 is another example of their success.

It runs faster than Unix and Linux servers and is one of the most secure versions of Windows Microsoft has ever produced.
Soon the computing world will be as it always should have been – Run on and controlled by Microsoft.
I am, of course, being f***ing sarcastic.
Yep, once again Croanon shows us all how bitter he really is that Java has failed on the client.
`secure microsoft product’ is an oxymoron.
yeah…like everyone has not heard that one like 100 times…..retard.
Now I have switched to .NET and have switched all of my friends as well. Anyone who continues to use Java is a fool. Java is dying!
That’s what they said of the Mainframe, C, C++, Unix… Just ask a person who does not have a clue, they’ll tell you.
In the end MS own greed will be the demise of the platform. VB anybody?
I’d be interested in hearing about someone taking an enterprise Java application, running it through Microsoft’s switch kit, and then running the resulting .NET code through Sun’s switch kit to get back Java. Repeat that a couple times and you’ll probably end up with a Java or C# app that puts up a “Hello world” message box.

Oh, thats funny. VB is still around and can be ran on Linux as well, dumbass.
I work for the state on my dayjob as a mainframe programmer… go figure, they are still around…
My MS products are very secure :nervous:
one moment just let me disconnect my internet connection.
hehe, more and more this place reminds me of slashdot! Keep up with the slamming dude
It’s funny when the ABM crowd starts slamming Windows Server 2003’s security, when in actuality it has far fewer patches then any Linux distro out there. Morons.
There has been so little research on tools to migrate codebases from one language to another, that I am glad that Microsoft has tossed the gauntlet. I hope that this will set off an arms race between competing platforms for better interoperability and migration tools. Hopefully good research into how to automatically migrate large codebases will happen and there will be tools for people to dig out of their legacy pits.
Its hilarious that this website, which is supposed to be for users of *various* OS’s has such M$ phobias and biases.
I am not a complete fan of M$, however, it has its place in the computing world.
The second an individual posts a message which supports the use of M$ for some things, it becomes automatic flame bait.
Linux users are becomming worse than MAC zealots. For fucks sakes, all OS’s have their strengths, and all have their weaknesses.
Boot Time for Redhat 9.0 on my 700 MhZ AMD = 3 + Minutes
Boot Time for Windows Server 2003 on my 700 MhZ AMD = 1.5 Minutes
# Crahses so far running Windows 2003 = 0 (using Win2K drivers even!!)
# Crashes and system hangs using RedHat 9.0 = 10 +
Get over it, M$ has far surpassed its Win98SE reputation. You stupid fucks have to learn to deal with its presence, it is not going away.
Mac and Linux zealots have always been about even in their fanaticism – with only recently the lead being taken by the mac zealots.
Both groups are mostly clueless fanboys anyway. I did network protocol conversion programming on linux for 5 years and still mostly use windows at home because IE is still the fastest browser out there – well dillo is the fastest, but that’s another story.
Try to use lynx!
Microsoft .NET is full with bugs. It is not secure!
Java is best at now universal programming language and will be the best in future. It is very secure!
Man….you Java zealots are really retards. Are are you annoyed that in your pathetic little crap language you can’t event pass a value type by reference ?!! :-))
Oh, this is far worse than slashdot. Not the actual site but the comments. You have to read tons of zealous crap just to find one interesting post. It isn’t really worth it.
You mean Basic Datatypes like int, char, float and so on…
Because Objects are all passed by reference/pointer…
Float, Integer ….
It depends on how you regard it…Reference is not needed as there are no pointers if you want so, because you don’t have to reference/dereference, but you cann pass a null instead of a object
Maybe that you can’t talk of pointers/reference so easily in JAVA.
And for int&co its not that big problem…If you know how to handle that.

PS:Just correct me if I am wrong
It’s incredible the sound of desperation in these posts.
Do you people really think anyone would get back on the Microsoft platform after running on Linux or Unix? Microsoft has got a long way to go to get to enterprise quality.
Plus, why would anyone go to a static compile,
after running on a HotSpot dynamic optimizer for their code.
Java is the standard cross platform language out there.
Microsoft, is going to have to get back on the Java bus, to be relevent.
Converting Applets and applications to .net means you don’t understand the crossplatform reason for Java to exist.
Windows Java Linux Mac zealots. Wow, everyone’s a zealot.
I don’t know about all of you but I think Perl is the standard cross-platform language. Yep, you guessed it. I’m a Perl zealot.
Seriously, though. When Parrot is interpreting java and all that .NET stuff who is going to want to use a compiled language again?
I don’t mind the zealot stuff so much (don’t get me wrong … it’s annoying but bearable)… what I mind is the degrading remarks being thrown in people’s replies to comments.
No one on this site is a “retard” and they don’t need to be called one to stress your defiance or point or whatever it is that you are trying to accomplish.
I’m sad to say it (because I’ve been an avid visitor of osnews.com for a couple years now) but lately the comments are becoming down right repulsive! I don’t read /. because of all the garbage you have to wade through to find relevant/interesting comments.
If the only thing you have to say is something offtopic/crude/degrading… then don’t say it. Leave and go somewhere else that doesn’t bother you so much. You’re not helping your cause by being ignorant and obnoxious.
Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.
“What an insightful comment. Once again, you, “CroanoN”, have told us what we could not otherwise decide for ourselves. What a burden for you.”
i declared my own thought. i didn’t decide for you. what an idiotic comment you have written.
“Yep, once again Croanon shows us all how bitter he really is that Java has failed on the client.”
no i didn’t say a word like that.
by the way, there are some idiots writing posts in my name. i am not an idiot, or licker of balls of mr gates. so, i am not moving to .net. indeed, yesterday i managed to change the idea of a govermental firm in turkey so they decided to use j2ee rather than .net. a big prject really. ms sales representatives hate me. but i love everybody. peace. –: )
My .Net 2003 needs a patch everyday. Hmm do I need convert my stable scalable J2EE to .Not …HAHAHA no way
