If you are into stocks, buy this.. after the post-IPO dust settles. I think they will do increasingly well as we go long. I hope MS doesn’t decide to acquire them at some point.
Anyone know what the planned date for the IPO is?
MS’s inferior product will win out, because it is integrated with the OS. The same pattern you see with cytrix, netscape, Novell et cetra.
Connectix all over again.
I hope they are smart enough to avoid the IPO route. Can you say Microsoft inspired management shakeup?
I knew you could.
(Corel, SCO/Caldera)
As soon as a company’s priorities turn to “satisfy the shareholders” the product goes downhill and anything that isn’t 100% vital to creating profit will be excised (such as support and testing and…).
Yes, I’m bitter.
VMWare is still not supported on FreeBSD.
W/O FreeBSD support, I have no use, nor do I give a damn about their product or company.
A non-story, IMNSHO
now THERE’S an acronym I haven’t heard in a while!
VMware is really amazing. I bought versions 1, 2, and 3 but they stopped giving big discounts so I can’t afford it personally anymore but the stuff they are doing is really quite remarkable. Oh, BTW you can’t announce the date of an IPO, it’s not legal.
To my knowledge VMWare IS supported on FreeBSD through the linux compatibility layer. FreeBSD even offers it in the ports tree. Check here for details :

I think a lot of the workstation (non-server) market for VMWare will disappear after Microsoft starts giving away copies of the excellent Virtual PC with their MSDN subscriptions.
Still useless software: VMWare is still not supported on FreeBSD. W/O FreeBSD support, I have no use, nor do I give a damn about their product or company.
FIFA franchise doesn’t run on Linux and, yes, I’m always interested on what EA is in store Trollish.

Cool that VMware 3 was ported. FreeBSD people can run Windows XP via VMware now

VMware is maybe not only the coolest proprietary software on town, but also a proof that our computers are way too powerful ))))))))
Cesar:
our computers way too powerful? When I can edit/encode videos in seconds rather than hours, get back to me Same for photo-realistic graphics.
VMware is a cool product, I wish them well against MS (and their Connectix buy-out).

Oh really, and I suppose Linux users wanting to run MS apps will have no use for it? Go troll somewhere else.
I sincerely wasn’t trolling. That’s still my opinion. And hey, just because you don’t like someone’s opinion doesn’t make it trolling.
Linux users have a _lot_ of options to run MS software besides VMWare. Plus with VMWare, you must purchase a license for Windows too.
So that leaves you with:
$$$ for VMWare
$$$ for Linux
$$$ for Windows
$$$ for a Windows app
Not the cheapest solution. I bet Linux people could get a cheap-o or secondhand machine to run Linux on rather than splurge for an expensive VMWare license. But maybe VMWare will lower their workstation prices a lot in the future.
But you never know. Linux users do spend more money per head on software and applications than users of other platforms so maybe they’ll be happy dropping $400 to run Windows software on their PC’s. Now _there’s_ a troll for you

Sorry, I meant to say they could get a cheap one to run Windows on
