My birthday is 2 days after FreeBSD’s! And one day after Pascal’s (the mathematician, not the language).
Anyways, FreeBSD is probably the best OS I have ever used so far (and I’ve used a lot). Lets hope it survives another 10 years in this capitalist law-suit hungry economy.
You will never die. Anyway Kudos to Jordan Hubbard, Nate Williams and Rod Grimes for starting the project. And yes, my hearty thanks to Bill Jolitz for starting for 386BSD that led the formation of this project.
Gentoo has indeed borrowed FreeBSD concepts and in several ways improved on them. It would be nice to see more cross-pollination, along the lines of the metapkg.org project.
Something very cool would be the emerge system running on a FreeBSD kernel, with a more modular approach to the contents of the base system. That’s one thing I’ve come to appreciate in Gentoo, you can pick out best-of-breed components [based on your own definitions] to make a lean custom system.
Wll, ive only been using Linux for 6 months. First Mandrake, than redhat..now happily on SlackWare.. But.. Tomorrow i install( god willing) BreeBSD 5.1 on another box. Thanks to all the FreeBSD coders and happy birthday beastie!!
Happy Birthday Beastie!!!
Happy Birthday to stability in a (free) server! And many Thanks to all those who lent their time to code it so well.
Not only server, but desktop as well.
*three birthday kisses for beastie* .
You’ve lived a decade having survived one lawsuit… let’s hope you don’t have to weather another one…
Happy birthday FreeBSD and FreeBSD team!
My file and web server (FreeBSD 4.8) thank you, and my FreeBSD workstation (5.1) thank you! Keep up the excellent work, gang!
Happy birthday, my computer say thank you to this great OS.
“You’ve lived a decade having survived one lawsuit…”
What lawsuit was that? Can you provide a link?
Happy Birthday FreeBSD!! And to those that made FreeBSD possible, Thanks for your hard work!!
The old BSD vs. USL lawsuit. Some links:

Hey, I have the same birthday as FreeBSD!
(and Garfield the cat..)

Gentoo owes a lot to FreeBSD, so Happy Birthday to FreeBSD and Thank You to the team and community. 🙂
Regards,
Mystilleef
I may not use FreeBSD day to day as it’s not stable enough yet on my system, but I do appreciate it’s contribution to the computer community.
FreeBSD is not stable enough yet? You’re joking right?
FreeBSD is as stable as it gets. If you’re having problems with it you most likely have a hardware problem.
You will never die. Anyway Kudos to Jordan Hubbard, Nate Williams and Rod Grimes for starting the project. And yes, my hearty thanks to Bill Jolitz for starting for 386BSD that led the formation of this project.
Happy birthday

Meanwhile, FreeBSD continues to rock my world.
My wife and I just had our second child born yesterday! What a surprise to find out that he shares his birthday with such a fine OS!
…or does FreeBSD share it’s birthay with my son?…
Happy Birthday!
in fact, beastie is much older than FreeBSD..

My favorite OS is 10 years old, and as a present, I got a Brand Spankin’ new Athlon XP 2000+ with 1GB PC2100 DDR RAM for it.
Hope FreeBSD has a long life, longer than mine at least.

Live long and prosperous Beastie!
Happy birthday too FreeBSD and a big thankyou to the team for creating the most stable server out there (imho)!
Keep up the good work for at least another decade!
I’m a novice FreeBSD user but still enjoy using and learning about BSD and UNIX history.
