A number of web sites reported that the database that holds the Apple Store data has been accidentally updated (and later its webmaster took down the whole Store website). While the headline in the final rendered web page is still calling it a “G4”, the specs are mentioning the following:1.6GHz, 1.8GHz, or Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 Processors
Up to 1 GHz processor bus
Up to 8GB of DDR SDRAM
Fast Serial ATA hard drives
AGP 8x Pro (ATI/Nvidia)
Three USB 2.0 ports
3 PCI or PCI-X expansion slots
One FireWire 800, two FireWie 400 ports
Bluetooth & Airport Extreme ready
Optical and analog audio in and out.
I’m really hoping this isn’t more vaporware BS.
Man, I think that maybe my next computer may be an apple.
that they’ll actually introduce G5 equipped powerbooks this time around so that G4 equipped powerbooks will drop in price a bunch!!
Realistically I don’t see it happening, but I can dream can’t I
Officially, PCI-Express isn’t really ready yet, so this sounds like a hoax. Also, the 1GHz system bus sounds way to high – there still isn’t memory out there that can use it, not even DDR-2. Nice try, though.
>PCI-Express isn’t really ready yet,
What are you talking about Zenja? PCI-XPress is not the same as PCI-X!! Apple is offering PCI-X, not PCI-Express!
> so this sounds like a hoax
The image with the specs was on Apple’s Store. It is not a hoax, everyone tells me in the “round”.
“Officially, PCI-Express isn’t really ready yet, so this sounds like a hoax.”
If its a hoax, then Apple did it… and not someone on the outside. I saw the page strait from the Apple domain.
Well, I’d love to be proven wrong 🙂 that is, I wouldn’t mind being wrong this time. Its about time Apple had the top hardware once again.
It’s about god damn time.
Well if this really happened it sorta sucks for apple having some wind knocked out of them, but if this was to be anounced next week then it’s not to big of a deal. The more important thing to know is the price. Dual 2ghz PPC970 mac would be very nice, but i doubt it will be in the sub 2500 buck range many would hope for.
“i doubt it will be in the sub 2500 buck range many would hope for.”
Personally, I would pay as much as $3,300…
I have about $6,000 to get the dual processor über Mac with 30″ and 15″ flat panel displays.
It’ll be nice to be back on top again.
I’ll consider this rumor mill stuff because thats all it is until Monday but I want to comment on the specs.
1.6GHz, 1.8GHz, or Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 Processors
Looks like single processor for the low and mid and the high end will be a dual.
Up to 1 GHz processor bus
This is a new one, I thought 900MHZ FSB was the max. Looks like the dual 2GHZ will have the 1GHZ processor bus.
Up to 8GB of DDR SDRAM
Thats a lot of RAM!
Fast Serial ATA hard drives
Apple is known to support stuff before their time so this is not too much of a surprise. Their current drive supplier is Seagate and IBM(Hitachi?). Seagate does have a serial ATA part.
AGP 8x Pro
Finally and maybe a nice Radeon 9800?
3 PCI or PCI-X expansion slots
A step down from the current 4 slots.
One FW800, two FW400 ports
Same as MDD and FW800.
Bluetooth & Airport Extreme ready
okay cool.
Optical and analog audio in and out
mmmmmmm!
Hopefully Apple will also address the fan noise issues that are prevalent in the current G4s.
>Hopefully Apple will also address the fan noise issues that are prevalent in the current G4s.
Apple replaced those noisy fans and power suppliers. The new ones are certainly quieter.
Today must be the day of mistakes. First the Harry Potter book, now this. Those specs mean at least someone is going to be having a nice Christmas.
> Those specs mean at least someone is going to be having a nice Christmas.
Yeah, Steve Jobs.
I waiting for the first 64bit iBook.
My brother emailed me earlier, and told me while at the website he saw this, and I didn’t believe him, and he also didn’t think to get a screen capture (damn). he emailed me this link but it was already looooong gone.
He typed in all the EXACT SAME SPECS, because he couldn’t believe what he was seeing!
I hope I’m not wrong, but I think I’m not; the bus speed is supposed to be half the processor speed. Maybe it’s gonna be a choked bus speed.
I’ll gladly put one of these things next to my Dell Precision (if they happen to be as good as hyped)
jayzzfk, I don’t want to stray too off topic but I have a FW800 system and it is noisier than my AMD system which is not acceptable.
At work I replaced the power supply and fan of an MDD and its still noisy.
Dell can put out whisper quiet P4 systems so I expect better from Apple.
The current G4 desktops are noisy by any measure.
Is the page
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/703…
static?
As mentioned above… I’m buyin a new Mac as soon as these things are available. Call me “officially convinced” Let me be the first Switcher for the new Mac era.
How about you guys… If the price is within the $2,500 range… would you switch too?
Honestly, not unless they made their cases a little more ‘professional’ looking. I’m honestly a little sick of their case designs. Now if they put one of these processors in a 15″ Powerbook and had a decent pricetag on it ($2500-$2750 sounds good!) then sure.
I’m honestly a little sick of their case designs.
Remember, these cases SHOULD have been out of date and thus replaced 2 years ago after the Moto F*** up. But Apple dealt with it anyways.
The cases were beautiful when they were first intro’d when compared to the average desktop PC IMHO. (Not unlike they way the origional iMac stylings were wonderful to look at until every industrial designer copied the transparent colored curved plastic look and it bacame tired.
Apple has always been on the cutting edge of design. I can’t imagine that this, the product which will make or break them will be any different.
Is the page static? no
Notice the crap at the end of the url and the fact that it uses webobjects
But that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be hacked. Of course occams razor says we should look at the simplest solution first which is human error.
then I’m buying one 😀 My first new Mac since the original iMac….nummy.
I wonder if there will be a 64-bit PPC Linux to follow suit (dual boot, naturally – I also want OS X). Spiffy keen!
Poor Steve Jobs; the guy can’t have a keynote without everyone knowing what he’s going to say beforehand.
@Josh Byington:
Please, let your next computer be one of these cool new PowerMacs mentioned in the article. Of course an Apple is a nice thing, but only for collectors. I’m sure that you don’t want to learn to use the old Apple DOS. And I’m sure you want to use the pretty exelent MacOS X – with full power. 😉
Damn, with 8GB of DDR 400 ram i dont think you even need a processor hahahaha this is gonna ROCK!
I noticed that the whole http://www.apple.com site was down for awhile. Apple wouldn’t do that if it were a hoax.
I’m looking forward to hearing everything on Monday.
There’s a reason Mac folks like Steve Jobs. He’s the guy who brings us all these cool toys.
it was down for a minor face lift it seems. I hope it’s going to be true.
I hope it’s true, but it might a hack or a joke or only partly true. I checked the rumor sites, and there are indications that there will be many product announcements on Monday (hardware and software).
I’m looking forward to Monday.
Over and Out.
Damn, I don’t know where you guys get $$$$$$, 1 st. for computer and 2 nd. for software????, ok to get a box I could get some money but then using linux? maybe but the point of mac is also os x.
What are you talking about? MacOSX comes by default with the Powermacs, pre-installed. And if you want X software, Fink provides ports of popular OSS software.
Hmm, yeah..
“accidentally” .. either this is just a publicity stunt.. I mean _everytime_ something new is about to be introduced, “accidentally” apple leaks stuff… yeah right, I don’t believe in this kind of accidents anymore.
(I’m not saying the news is not cool though)
or it is a hoax.. there are so many of them..
Plus, much of the consumer/productivity software you need is already included with a Mac purchase.
Let’s not let this thread go downhill with trolls filling it with Mac vs PC cost analysis. We don;t even know how much these things cost yet. Reserve your price-related judgements ’till Monday.
Yes but you need to buy office don’t you, you have to buy all the progs you had in os 9, to run in os x. So tell me mrs. how easy is to install fink, how stable is open office for osx, does dreamweaver like app exist in opensource… so just to have nice apple box for 2500$ just for running base system + mail + internet, don’t you think is cheaper to have win? I guess you can’t get software via kazaa can’t you?
http://www.macminute.com/images/db/powermacg5screen.gif
For those not familiar with the QWERTY keyboard: the 4 key is reight beside the 5 key.
If this was leaked knowledge (G5) they would’ve replaced it with nothing and not a lie (G4). They would’ve removed the page altogether. This makes me think the web content team just mistyped the CPU type. Also notice how they weren’t consistent on the image…
http://www.themacmind.com/images/articles/wwdc_oops_g5.gif
It says “Choose your G4” but the specs say G5.
If this is n’t a hoax it likely means they wanted to put G4 but accidently put G5 there. I think the mac rumor crowd is running out of ways to post the same old story over and over again until WWDC.
I hope Mac will go 64-bit (call it G5 or whatever it doesn’t matter) but WWDC is where we’ll all figure it out so run the G5 rumor once and get on with your lives. Nothing to see here.
I’m getting sick of people who complain that they have to buy software.. If your work requires that you use things like Office, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc. then I sure hope that you can afford to pay for these things. These apps are for people who use them to do WORK – not for computer geeks who just download them for free from Kazaa just because they can. My girlfriend works for an architect who switched from PC running AutoCAD to Macs running ArchiCAD. You better believe the software was expensive, but did he complain about it on internet forums? No, he just paid for it knowing that he’d make his money back in no time. Yes, for normal everyday people like you and I, pro software can be expensive, but guess what? That software isn’t targeted at us. They are made and sold to professionals making money.
I see what you’re saying, BUT what kind of a G4 runs on a 1ghz bus and supports up to 8GB of RAM?
Why would I bother to install Linux on my mac ?
With Trolltechs QT now released for Mac OS X, you can compile every QT app without using a X server.
If those new Macs are true, you can compile KDE apps within minutes :-)))
Apple has taken the crown of personal computer achievement for the moment. The top of the line G5 is an excellent machine with 4Ghz of 64-bit computing power.
A few thoughts:
(1) I am happy to see that Apple did not cripple the machine. Dual processors from the get go is great. 8GB RAM expansion is great, 1Ghz bus is great, SATA is great, PCI-X is great, AGP 8x Pro is great. I do hope it’s quiet too 🙂
(2) The premier platform for creating music is now available with the most processing power of any mainstream workstation.
(3) Apple is doing great work on their OS, so we won’t see the same kind of crap we see for 64-bit Windows which is a crap port that is not optimized for 64 bits.
Bravo, Apple. Let’s hope these machines are good quality out the door without the glitches that have plauged some of Apple’s more advanced designs.
I guess you can’t get software via kazaa can’t you?
You can get it for free from IRC, other mac friends or carracho.
I’m not a mac fan but this is good news. Whether is a new breed of g4 or the new g5 it doesn’t matter. x86 systems have had the upper hand (power wise) for too long. With a more powerful mac entering the market intel and amd would have to do some serious developing. It would also keep ms on their toes. They would get longhorn done sooner since they’d see it as a step ahead of macs. They’d have to keep a certain level of quality too. With osX being as good as it is and the hardware as good, if not better (if the specs are accurate of course), on the apple side ms would lose some customers if they turned longhorn into a repeat of me.
It says “Choose your G4” because that’s a completely seperate image. We’re only talking about ONE image here that was changed.
1GHz Processor bus? Sounds impressive but i’d probably imagine it to be 500MHz DDR bus, which while still impressive, is less than the P4.
Then again, I might be completely wrong
it’s great 2ghz model will sport 1ghz fsb but if the memory controller only supports 500mhz or is single channel, the high fsb is just a waste. fastest memory i have seen is pc3700 at 466mhz aka ddr 466 which might be good enough for 500mhz fsb but still not good enough for 2ghz G5 with 1ghz fsb. for apple’s sake and its users they made a decent motherboard that can saturate the high fsb
” 1GHz Processor bus? Sounds impressive but i’d probably imagine it to be 500MHz DDR bus, which while still impressive, is less than the P4.
Then again, I might be completely wrong ”
New P4 chips have 200mhz front side. They’re quadpumped to 800mhz. g5 fsb is half the process speed. so 2ghz is 1ghz fsb which is 500mhz ddr fsb
I would imagine that their 1ghz fsb will be similar to Intel’s. The RAM will not run at 1ghz, but more likely something in the area of 300, or maybe 400. It’s even possible that the ram will be dual channel 400, plus 200mhz for the PCI, etc.
I’m most intersted in the dual channel idea. The largest stick of RAM you will find today is 2gb. That means that there is a minimum of 4 slots for RAM. 800mhz dedicated to RAM would be outstanding, especially with 400mhz dedicate to only two sticks.
of course, i may not understand the architecure as well as others, but I think i’m on the right track 🙂
Is there any man alive willing to believe that this information became ACCIDENTALLY available on Apple’s site?
It appears everything I’ve been saying that everyone else has chalked up to “rumor” is true.
I think from the fact these systems support PCI-X it’s clear AMD is making the chipset. I think it’s *very* likely the PCI-X chip is actually the AMD-8131 HyperTransport to PCI-X bridge. It’s also likely that AMD is making the chip serving as memory controller and FSB to HyperTransport bridge as well.
And for those who are still in doubt, we’ll find out Monday, won’t we?
I would imagine that their 1ghz fsb will be similar to Intel’s. The RAM will not run at 1ghz, but more likely something in the area of 300, or maybe 400. It’s even possible that the ram will be dual channel 400, plus 200mhz for the PCI, etc.
Most sources have been reporting the system will use DDR400 RAM. The current architectural rumours dictate a seperate chip for each processor which contains HyperTransport controller and memory controller, with the processors linked to each other and to the AGP/PCI/PCI-X busses using HyperTransport.
I’m most intersted in the dual channel idea. The largest stick of RAM you will find today is 2gb. That means that there is a minimum of 4 slots for RAM. 800mhz dedicated to RAM would be outstanding, especially with 400mhz dedicate to only two sticks.
This seems likely too. If so, the dual 2GHz PPC970 systems would outperform any PC system currently on the market, especially with a bus of sufficient bandwidth to properly utilize the AltiVec unit, something which Macs haven’t really had before. Only now will the full potential of AltiVec be realized.
Apple intends for these systems to be truly top-of-the-line. Perhaps now this will temporarily quell complaints about the performance of Macs in comparison to PCs.
Just noticed a new update of Quake III arena for MacOS X yesterday, ‘AltiVec test update 2 ‘
I think some new benchmarks will be excepted new week !
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/8961/
to note the prices of the current offering for comparison with the new stuff…
For those commenting about how they use G4 and G5 on the same image, and assuming this means G5 was simply a mistake, you may want to look at the page – it uses *2* images. The title is an image (and said G4 as it does right now), the specification image is the one that was released accidentally and is a seperate image. So, only 1 image on the page got accidentally released and it mentioned G5 processors.
From the IBM Microprocessor Forum Slides:
– 2 32 bit UNIDIRECTIONAL Busses
– 32 bit read, 32 bit write
– Point-to-Point
– Source Synchronous
UP to 900 MHz bit rate achieves up to 6.4 GB/s usable Bandwidth.
From IN-Stat/MDR Report, October, 2002 – Comparing PPC970 with Power4
PPC970 Power4
FSB Frequency: 450 MHz 433 MHz
FSB Effecitve bit rate: 900 MHz 433 MHz
FSB Width 2 x 32 bits 2 x 128 bits
FSB Data Bandwidth 2 x 3.2 GB/s 2 x 6.9 GB/s
Remember: Power 4 is a “dual core” processor, geared for “mainframe” type transaction processing, so it needs the bandwidth. Apple is part of the Hypertransport group, so it’s pretty easy to guess that the new “Apple PI” (for Apple Processor Interconnect) is based or “IS” Hypertransport.
Bottom Line: MUCH faster Raw Bandwidth than the ‘quad pumped’ Intel FSB, for better sustained “system throughput”. Let the salivating begin!
I couldn’t say whether this is a hoax or not, but I hope it isn’t. If Apple gets with the program and puts all the right gear in their boxes at a competitive price they should expect clear interest from a lot of people.
But this is the thing : there’s a growing movement in Europe to move away from Microsoft dominated desktops in favor of Linux.
Imagine Apple offering a box crammed full of Open Source software (the box still running X, of course) and introducing it as another alternative to proprietary platforms. Of course, X would still be a proprietary system, but many of the components would be Open Source, and the all the third party software could be Open Source if the customer so wanted.
It would make a great case for Apple as a choice platform because of its demonstrated user-friendliness, its superior hardware architecture, its support for Open Source software and the fact that it very clearly is not Microsoft.
That could amount to a very strong presence in Europe where there are also a great many Apple fans, and it would offer an attractive alternative to Linux (which is after all also an Apple competitor) because, IMHO, the various flavors of Linux skins certainly look very nice but Aqua is just plain sexy.
Looking forward to Monday’s announcements.
Please let it be true……..please let it be true.
Fast Serial ATA hard drives
Apple is known to support stuff before their time
oberto, what’s so new about SATA? SATA has been in stores for quite a while now.
First the HP glitch and then the Apple glitch, one may wonder whether the web designers did it on purpose without the knowlegde of their superiors just for their fellow netizens?
It is most certainly not static. Not dynamic in the sense of CGI/ASP/PHP and the likes, but not static either. The store uses WebObjects. You can pretty much see that it uses *.woa instead of *.html. And hacking it won’t be easy, unless their sys admins are stupid enough to leave a few ports open and leaving their root password as “sex”.
yup i’m looking forward to next year when SATA 2 comes out, 300MB/s and some form of daisy-chaining drives to allow up to 10 on the one connection (if i remember rightly) 🙂
The possiblity that Apple may have this as a publisity stunt is very.. uhm… stupid. First of all, before WWDC, they would probably want to remove as much as their inventory as possible. How is leaking the next model gonna help that? Consumers won’t buy because they know when the G5 is released, G4 prices would be slashed further – why pay more?
And then the fact that it wasn’t aline that long either. Doesn’t seem to me to be a publisity stunt. And Jobs would be much much much better off announcing it as a *suprise* at WWDC than letting most of the delegates know about it before hand. It makes much more sense.

I guess you can’t get software via kazaa can’t you?
There is always Acquisition (www.xlife.org).
I wonder about all of these “leaks.” I am sure some are just plain speculation that originate in someones imagination but i can’t help but wonder if maybe apple feeds these things on purpose. I would. Its great PR.
It looks like on Monday all of Steve Job’s pent up fury will be unleashed! Mine too, for that matter. Ah, computing is wonderful!!
I did see a rumor that the case might have a more traditional shape…and without the handles. But, it said nothing about coloring, etc.
This is just incredible. I almost wish there was no weekend and it’s Monday 🙂
I have to say,
I am just as excited as everyone about these news as it basically means that the average Macs will be as powerful as the average PCs with the global quality and the offer of great softwares a bonus and the top end will be more powerful than PCs so it gives a good reason to support it.
But
1/ We don’t know the price yet.
2/ Nothing justify not to have a week end.
By the way my wife has a pregnancy scan on Monday so I ve got my fingers crossed on 2 events.
cheers everyone

this is good sense (not just because i thought the same thing), but i wonder. apple and motorola have had problems since the g3 days, and jobs&co. certainly haven’t been coy about jumping in bed with ibm – perhaps they haven’t ordered any motorola-specific hardware in quite some time, and can afford to take the risk. dunno.
You can count on it.
Well I don’t blame the guy. Just look at the fiasco the MacOS caused for Apple. Talking about a new operating system before it is even started and each time making the public more and more annoyed as each development effort fell to pieces. IMHO, Steve just wants to make sure than when they do work on a product, they don’t talk about it until it is ready and actually has an 85-95% of working the first time.
The new cases will be aluminum based for better heat dissapation (plus a heck of a lot lighter), it’ll be similar to the powerbook 12 and 17 inch case material. The four handles will still remain although less protrusive and usb will be on the front (i have an older quicksilver 733mhz). It’s bad shit guys, monday will be a great day indeed!
Maybe apple.com and store.apple.com were downed because they were getting so much traffic from people hearing about this glitch and rushing to see it for themselves.
I have moved the zip of the downloaded page to
dmsharp.freeshell.org/g5.zip
“The new cases will be aluminum based for better heat dissapation (plus a heck of a lot lighter)”
An aluminum case has a negligable effect on cooling because the air in the case is a very effective insulator. Apple would need to use a heatpipe and put heatsink fins on the sides of the case to make any appreciable difference.

Well Phillippe, I guess you could really use this weekend, seeing as how you have something even bigger than this Apple story to look forward to. Good luck to you and your wife!!

Ok guys, lets keep it live. It is entirely a possibility the apple site got hacked. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Apple notified all rumor sites to remove gif image.

I beg to differ. enough has already been said about the G5 to slow down G4 sales. I doubt you could make that any worse than it is. Jobs is the master at marketing, and marketing is all about repetition. A leak, and this could have been a mistake but lets pretend it was not, would give G5 more publicity. It would create additional curiosity as well so lots of people would watch for the announcement. It might also push up media coverage of the event. It kinds of like the who shot JR syndrome. Everyone is going to watch season’s premiere to find out and all eyes will be on apple to see the announcement of the G5.
I wonder who is going to get the pink slip for this…I would hate to be on Apple’s website team..Heads will roll.
it’s a great way to pack the wwdc with crackintosh addicts

Hahahaha!!!
O well, this had better be true. If it turns out to have been false, the dissapointment would be great as the current excitement.
Up to 1 GHz processor bus
This is a new one, I thought 900MHZ FSB was the max. Looks like the dual 2GHZ will have the 1GHZ processor bus.
Someone may have answered this already but…..
the memory bus runs at 1/4 processor clock. And then it’s DDR so they call it 1/2. So your assumption is correct.
… this has “hack” written all over it. I’ll bet some “l33t haXor” out there is gloating to all his/her friends how many people got fooled by this.
Julia, this is no hack.
The problem with buying software is not buying it per sé. My biggest impediment to switch is Adobe’s suite of design applications. I paid for those, on the Windows platform. It seems unfair to me that I have to pay the full license again just to switch platforms with the same apps (same versions). The argument about using it on 2 computers at the same time for the price of 1 doesn’t hold true. I could use my single Windows license on dozens of computers without anyone notice, but I don’t. Why would I suddenly start doing this when one of my boxes is an Apple? The tax adobe puts on switching platforms for their apps seems highly unfair to me. I would be willing to pay the price of regular upgrades for the favor, but not the whole full-package license.
“Jobs is the master at marketing”
What is the market share of Apple computers ? Marketing that doesn’t sell is called bullshit over here ! Please stop thinking about Steve Jobs as a god.
rob, you have to realize that Jobs saved Apple from oblivion, made it an innovative and profitable company again. He’s far from being God, but he has done this. Got to give credit where credit is due.
Please stop thinking about Steve Jobs as a god.
No no no, Steve Wozniak is God. Jobs is his Messiah. 😉
I think we are going to see Steve bring back the mac vs pentium race during his keynote.
Sorry SATA may have been out there for a while but no one is implementing it as standard equipment on the mobo like what Apple may be doing.
Monday is going to be an interesting day.
is that USB 2.0 as in USB 2.0 or USB 2.0 as in USB 1.1?
I thought that they had said that this time at the WWDC, Jobs wasn’t going to do a keynote speech? Or was that at the last macworld? I hope they put that keynote online as usual if he does do one, they’re always fun to watch.
All I can see is the opening of the opteron vs Mac duel.
Before the G6 trashes that.
As far as I am concern I will be buying a 1.6 if they are
in the 1500 range I would have stretch to 2000 for a dual
but it’s not there unfortunately.
Apple will stream Jobs Keynote speech with a daly on monday night.
Here is the link:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/wwdc03/
Maybe diff software vendors have different policies. I bought Maxon’s Cinema 4D XL 7.3 for Windows. I inquired about a platform switch, and they said for just $100 I can get the same version for OSX, as opposed to paying another $1700.
Macs will always be too expensive. I’d love to have one but I just can’t justify spending the money when I can get a way faster PC for less money, which has more games, more software, can run more operatings systems, more hardware, etc etc. But I LOVE OS X…AHH this sucks.
is that USB 2.0 as in USB 2.0 or USB 2.0 as in USB 1.1?
I’d be willing to bet $1000 that they wouldn’t put USB 1.1 in the G5’s. I’d say it’s 2.0
“Sorry SATA may have been out there for a while but no one is implementing it as standard equipment on the mobo like what Apple may be doing.
”
I’m not quite certain what you mean by that, but there are several motherboards that have SATA, as well as UDMA.
Sorry SATA may have been out there for a while but no one is implementing it as standard equipment on the mobo like what Apple may be doing.
All of these features are pretty standard fare on Opteron motherboards, such as the Tyan Thunder K8S:
http://www.nexcomdirect.com/mmnexcomdirect/Images/K8S.GIF
This includes Serial ATA as well as PCI-X. However, these boards are not shipping with AMD’s HyperTransport to AGP bridge chip, even though that’s been demoed several times.
PPC970 has the chance to greatly outperform Opteron, however. The Opteron’s integrated memory controller is both a blessing and a curse: it increases performance but limits the speed of RAM the processor is capable of using. Consequently, if the PPC970-based boards ship with dual channel DDR400 memory controllers, the PPC970 will have greater memory bandwidth than the Opteron.
It seems unfair to me that I have to pay the full license again just to switch platforms with the same apps (same versions).
… snip …
I would be willing to pay the price of regular upgrades for the favor, but not the whole full-package license.
I’m assuming you haven’t actually ever talked to Adobe, because that is exactly what the policy is.
You contact them to let them know what this is what you want to do (I believe they call it an x-platform or ex-platform upgrade), pay the upgrade, and fill out the ‘letter of software destruction’ for your old version

You’re best off if you’re a version behind, as that way, it’s not even an additional penalty, it is just the upgrade fee alone.
