TriangleOS runs under the latest Bochs x86 emulator, ReactOS as well, and now you can run Syllable on it. Regarding Syllable, here is its updated tab-based terminal. On Bochs news, the CVS version now supports SSE/SSE2 emulation. Has anyone tried MenuetOS & SkyOS with the Bochs Vesa patch?
How is the Plex acceleration for Bochs coming along?
Is there a good FAQ on how to configure Bochs anywhere? I tried it a while ago and couldnt even get the VM to boot……
Jan did a good job with Bochs. Note that these patches are not in the main branch of CVS yet, so you have to use the version Jan provides on his homepage. Due to the way he has had to hack the code to get 24/32bit support this also only works on the Win32 version of Bochs.
Yes I did try Syllable with it on a 1Ghz Dell box. It works but it was slow. If you compiled Bochs with the patches yourself you could turn on some optimisations I guess, and obviously a faster machine would help!
It has already proven to be useful as I’ve found one bug with it! That can’t be bad now can it?
Does any one happen to have any premade Syllable images ready for download?
Plex acceleration is what this project really needs.
Indeed using Plex’s code would help a lot, and I’m all for it, just so long as they dont abandon their EMULATOR. One of the reasons I like Bochs is because it’s not tied to the x86, so I know i can run it one whichever computer I’m on.
I tried Bochs, but for now all I can say is that it is cool and it sucks. I couldn’t get the networking work, and it is quite hard to make it work. Also I tried it on windows 98. Though it was cool to see linux running on top of windows.
I’m working on getting a image up now… I’m following the directions exactly and not having any trouble yet, so wait a few and I’ll zip up a final image…
Oh, wait I forgot there was a problem with the bochsrc file.. the vgabios line left vgabios file with out its .bin extenstion so it wouldn’t boot…
I can get to the Aterm screen now, but the keyboard is very uncooperative. I’v never really had this problem with Bochs befor, but when I hit any key it is printed anywhere from 2 to 5 times. This means I can’t continue with the installation. Any Ideas?
I had the same problem when I tried to get Syllable installed.
Yeah, I had that too. If you type r e a l l y slowly, e.g. wait for each character to be displayed before you hit the next key, it’ll work. I think the bochsrc has some options to control the keyboard too.
Are there ReactOS screenshots available yet?
Okay I found this Interview but it is a bit old, so are the screenshots.

The screenshots on the ReactOS homepage are much more interesting …

Removing “keyboard_serial_delay: 250” from the bochsrc.txt file seems to fix the problem.
I can’t believe I didn’t see the screenshots they were on the front page.
I bet when this project matures, someone will port KDE or GNOME to it ;B
