Galeon 1.0, the browser that utilizes the Mozilla engine but in a lightweight fashion, was released recently and the LinuxLaboratory feature a quick review of the application. In related news, Opera Software announced the Opera 6 TechPreview version for Linux.
A browser that is designed to do that… simply browse. This will become my 1st choice, for sure.
One thing that is missing from Galeon is decent multithreading. Whenever a complex page is being rendered (like a big /. story with nested comments) the whole browser locks up. When a page is loading slowly and you try to switch to another tab, its really annoying when Galeon freezes like that. Also, one thing that troubles me. IE is faster at opening a whole new window than Galeon is at making a new tab. Process creation under Linux is *way* faster than process creation under windows, so what’s the huge slowdown?
Opera can disable pops (or send ’em to the back).
