Is this a barebones Linux distro with Wine on top? Their Engish isn’t so good, so the description on their website is a little hard to follow.
I downloaded it. All the documentation is in spanish. My espanol is not so great, but from what I could make out, it seems similar to a minimal linux distro that installs from within windows, has what looks like a custom desktop/file manager, and integrated WINE support. I’ll have to see about translating those docs…
*runs off to find a spanish-english dictionary*
He is trying to build a system that is 100% compatible with window using Wine + Linux. So his whole project is depended on the advancement of Wine and maybe Mono in the future.
PS
one troll(me) is enough for OSNEWS.
Does it run sir mix alot’s software or else it sucks just like every other Linux distro.
Bizarre.
Sort of a neat idea, but it just looks bizarre to me for some reason
I guess they used altavista to translate the entire site from spanish to english, wich is a very bad idea because in the spanish page on the drivers section you have: “Vga mono Generic Drive” wich was translated to “VGA monkey Generic Driver” in english by altavista (mono is the spanish word for monkey).
That explains the monkey business going on with the Mono project.
I’m a free Sourceforge Spanish-English translator, I wrote the developers in both English and Spanish telling them that I am willing to translate all of their webpages and documentation into English, but go no response. I don’t mind doing it, but they gotta atleast add me to the sourceforge project as a translater. Although it’s not as difficult as programming, it does take a few hours and I’m a credit whore.
I kinda thought people would have figured that out by now, picture of a monkey on the mono site and Miguel is latino, as am I. If these people dont take Dave up on his offer I will translate it for them, Im not a credit whore I will try this out and see how far I can get with it. I will send Eugenia a review when I get time to play with it.
The idea of running windows Apps on Linux is great (not new), but I can’t help to think about this: Wine on a standard Linux distro is great because you can run Windows apps besides your Linux ones, but what’s the benefit of doing it such a “naked” OS like this?
If it only supports Win apps, you will have to pay for 90% of the software you will need to add to the OS; so, in the best case, you are runnng 10 expensive apps, emulated, in exchange for 1 free OS.
You will probably save yourself a lot of grief running them in windows.
Now, if running Windows apps is your competitive egde, it is an failure? Why? Why would a Windows user switch to this from Windows? Any competitive advantage? Speed? I doubt it, it really depends on the app. Security? Much of Windows security problems come from Win32, and Wine strives for binary compatiblity with Win32, so I don’t think so. Stability? Hmm…
Besides the fact that Wine can hardly run much Windows applications and those it could run doesn’t run as well as it does as Windows, and those who run 100% perfectly on Windows is small tiny apps already having capable altenatives on Linux.

LOL! Admit it – you’re really a badly written Perl script that interfaces with Babelfish and then randomly mis-spells the results.
Who is willing to translate the translations? Anyone?
The author is a fellow argentinian who i met on local gamedev mailing
lists. Every time i talked to him he couldnt stop babbling nonsense,
and just by reading the documentation of his project you could only assume he was on crack (althought you have to understand spanish) The screenshots this OS proovided only some months ago were outright ripped from the ones in some window manager page.
If i did some research on my mail archives i could pull out all sort of stuff to prove this OS is bullshit and the author is some guy with mental illness, but i guess it’s not worth it. I have no idea how he managed to pull up this page and what he offers together, but i’m sure it wouldnt take much to realize it’s crap.
In any way, I like the idea, isnt this what lindows was supposed to be
at first? I really dont understand why companies like IBM or SUN dont dedicate resources to improve WINE, as it obviously seems to me that could be an excelent way of fighting microsoft.
No, I’m no script. Dave, What are you doing Dave? Stop that Dave? Dave, I don’t think you should be doing that Dave. Dave, Stop that.

As futuristic as Soviets in the 21st century…
.. but a modified Minix
I extracted it and move it to my PC Dos 7 partition. From there I ran win.exe. I got some Spanish messages and then my pc was just rebooted. I tried it with and without my config.sys and autoexec.bat stuff loaded.
Except for first two images, those images have no links for the larger versions, therefore it is very hard to tell but i wonder if this really is just a bullshit..
In a shot, there are only one program and a run window, and the comment says “here can be observed the multitask and stability when executing programs Windows.”
It makes me very nervous about the distro wether it is just a distro as mentioned on the webpage or some kind of trojan program..
Have anyone already tried and known what it really is?
I load the icq and visual c!! that´s cools system!! and it´s easy to setup!!!
But i can´t run my allegro games… fuck… but the office 97 run ok!! wow!!

good try, but your IP is logged, I bet you are probably one of Mr. Wad’s
groupies from “echosoft”
If that’s the case, you can tell you mr wad friend to stop smoking crackpots and cut it out, since he doesnt have what it takes to be an OS developer and there is no good in keep faking that bullshit OS
all the time on the net.
And for the sake of it, yes i downloaded the thing. The “kernel” package seems to be a 2.0.30 kernel in DOS 8.3 text format (umsdos) and no apparent modification. Downloaded eosx later on.. well It seems to be somewhat of a base umsdos linux distro with wine and dosemu installed, on top of that the somewhat very wicked driver layer.. it kinda works like this.. when you configure the drivers (the *.drv files), they contain fragments of config files such as XF86Config which are thrown together before the system starts. Later on it seems like it wants to load the QVWM windows manager (i thoght that was a long dead project). I didnt actually run it, but thats what i can see from the source. I like how somewhere in the docs says he will implement
directX emulation later on (?).
At least I can say there is some progress on this, the version i saw some years ago was basically the same but in the docs he said he didnt program winmodem drivers because he didnt feel like it, but later say it was deadly easy so he would do it later on
In short, dont bother with this, its not a serious project.. it’s just a bunch of stuff threw together by a kid, who replaced all credits in wine/linux/etc for the “EOSX” legend, written in such way that totaly
ignores the components the monster is based on (as in, hiding them) with only some bizarre credits at the end. I hope you dont waste your time with this either now or in the future, as it’s simply a pointless project.
Seriously, the guy could have been honest and said “I made a small umsdos based linux distro with wine and dosemu integrated, so you can do something cool like attempt to pitifuly run what you already run better on the native OS, just because it’s cool”…

I, for one, can attest that there are many of us wishing we had just such a thing, but were unable to understand how to do it, and the people that understand are mostly clueless Penguins that consider 800 Mb a “small” distribution.
(Oh, I can hear it now, somebody’s going to point out how big the current Windows distro is, which changes nothing.)
I know this guy in person, he is a medicine student that is trying to be known by replacing all credits of the other project by “Emanuel Cha…”.
Where is the source code? I would like to see the quality of the lines _he_ wrote.
Eugenia, I red OSnews everyday since a year ago, this is the first time that I red a post from you that doesn’t worth anything. I would be good that you verify how serious are the project before you make a post.

While I don’t think Eugenia should be held responsible for the quality of the project (?), I wonder how did it get to be posted in here… I mean, did the author announced/submitted it to OSnews?
On second toughts, maybe OSnews should add a new category on its forums lists, right after “really alternative OSes”… how about “BizzarOS”?

About the sub proyect E/OS kernel
I´m working in assembler for do a compatible kernel with linux. When i finish i will public the source, for the moment i´m working in this. For do a “real system” and not more a linux system.
About the objetive of proyect, i know about the out date of wine, qvwm and rest, but i´m working with the sources for add same parts of news versions and do a more small and fast system. But if you think this it´s bad.. well think..
