ArcaOS 5.0 has been released and it is available to be bought at the Arca Noae shop page. It is based on OS/2 Warp 4.52 binaries, and contains newer drivers for ACPI, USB, and networking, a new installer and several open source software projects such as Firefox, Qt, Libc, and OpenOffice.
The OS2World Community also posted a statement with important OS/2 community links and some remarks on the important role open source software has in the OS/2 community.
…and isn’t susceptible to ransomeware!
Well, isn’t targeted by ransomware.
Unless you’re running WinOS/2 … Although that’s mainly Windows 3.x.
Wasn’t there a project to make Win9x apps run on OS/2? Although, that may be too old to be vulnerable.
Hrm, maybe it would be safe to run this then.

Only works for very simple things though…

As Far as Tight Control Panels on “Active” content and code, they’ll be fine. Remembering former Opera browser had granular control over this.
Some people really able to see over the horizon. To smell the future.

Even GEOS now owned by Breadbox Computer is now moving to open source GEOS
I agree os/2 users should have considered open source years ago.
Get behind a the Osfree Project or something similar
I’m glad the OS/2 world finally realized that open source was the only way to keep their pet system alive in the face of corporate dickery. Unix, Windows XP, and even DOS fans beat them to the punch by decades.
OSFree has existed for years. Some people realised, but the majority sat on the arses waiting for eComStation to take over the world
We need more people to help on the OSFree project. There is no manpower or money on the project. Help is welcome.
I would like to help any way i can
Surely no-one seriously expected that to happen, right?
Unix got an open-source clone
DOS got an open-source clone
Windows XP got an open-source clone
BeOS got an open-source clone
AmigaOS got an open-source clone
Pretty much every platform that had a die-hard following decided to make an open-source clone of their OS. Except OS/2, because eComStation appeared to be the true continuation of their beloved OS.
Fact of the matter is, each OS referenced above is open-source, actively developed and (with the exception of ReactOS) stable and compatible enough to use as your daily driver OS. Maybe if OS/2 users has decided to go down the open-source path, their future would be much brighter.
OS/2 got an open-source clone aka OSFree:

Granted, it’s not a vibrant community, but it’s there.

Not even a trial? How can I see if I like it?
You can’t actually buy it either. Their site keeps crashing and when I get the page to load it actually fails to continue to paypal
They mitigated the server load. https://www.arcanoae.com/server-load-mitigated-order-processing-movi…
Hum – Getting more interest then anticipated?
This would be a good sign for the future of the ArcaOS Project.
OSFree and Voyager are two OS/2 replication projects which I have kept an eye on over the years. However, both appear to be under-resourced and having a hard time progressing. Maybe a side effect of ArcaOS will be to relight the fire for these two open-sourced OS/2 replication projects?

Agreed They want us to pay with out being able to test it? Can you say “Buy a pig in a poke?”
I know OSFree is pretty dead, but i think it still twitches a few times a year.
Maybe it could be of use to ArcaOS
I’ve been waiting for a cheaper alternative to eComStation. The $99 personal edition hit my sweet spot. OK, my lonely little Thinkpad, lets see what we can do!
Congratulations to the Arca OS Comunity
I%D Cheers.
