We are pleased to announce the official release of OpenBSD 6.1. This is our 42nd release. We remain proud of OpenBSD’s record of more than twenty years with only two remote holes in the default install.
As in our previous releases, 6.1 provides significant improvements, including new features, in nearly all areas of the system.
Sad to see Zaurus go, but it’s been a dead platform for many years now. My SL-5500 kicked the bucket a few years ago and I haven’t bothered to replace it since they are going for several hundred dollars on eBay and Amazon. If I’m going to spend that kind of money I’ll get something more modern like a Pandora.

This could be a replacement. Assuming it ever makes it to market.
Neat! That looks more like a reimagining of the Toshiba Libretto though. I’m more inclined towards a non-x86 device with a 3-4 inch screen and OpenBSD compatibility.
It looks like that project is over 1300% funded so I would be surprised if it doesn’t go to market.
Looks like it is standard Intel graphics. I would be surprised if it didn’t work with OpenBSD.
I’m sure it would, but as I said I’m more interested in non-x86 and smaller dimensions. I already have a laptop that runs OpenBSD perfectly, I need (well, want) a device that’s smaller and fanless.
Yeah, the more I look into it, the more I see blob all over the drivers. Probably wouldn’t support have OpenBSD support at all, despite the Intel/Intel stack.
It’s times like this I wish Neo900 ever got off the ground. OpenBSD is my preferred OS for everything, but I could live with the Debian or whatever real Linux they plan to put on it.
I’m right there with you. If I wasn’t so happy with my Blackberry Passport I’d grab another N900 for my daily driver. It’s slow by today’s standards but it’s the only true Linux portable that puts the phone first.
Interesting. That’s almost something I would buy.
It only has two buttons on the trackpoint rather then three, and it’s a 7″ screen. Select and middle-click paste is something I would miss, and a 12″ screen would be ideal.
A 60% style keyboard would be nice, but now I’m just getting ridiculous.
Clicking both buttons at the same time is interpreted as a middle click since the early days of the 3-button mouse. You wouldn’t be missing anything.
I’ve tried that before, and it’s wonky. It’s probably just me, but a third button is much nicer. Especially with a trackpoint when it’s the thumb that is clicking the buttons. Moving to off of the nub to click the both buttons kind of defeats the purpose it.
With a trackpad, all of your fingers are there, so it’s not as disruptive since an entire hand was moved anyway.
I remember playing with those when I worked at Best Buy. They were cool little things, and it’s a shame they were kind of a dead end.
Every few years people try to do a pure Linux/BSD/Unix device, and it ends in tears.
Let’s get a list of failed projects going:
* Ubuntu Touch
* The KDE Tablet
* Nokia N9
* Sharp Zaurus
