In response to questions from BuzzFeed News, Google, Apple, and Uber clarified their positions on President-elect Donald Trump’s comments about a possible Muslim registry. “In relation to the hypothetical of whether we would ever help build a ‘muslim registry’ – we haven’t been asked, of course we wouldn’t do this and we are glad – from all that we’ve read – that the proposal doesn’t seem to be on the table,” a spokesperson for Google told BuzzFeed News in an email.
BuzzFeed News asked all three companies whether they would help build or provide data for a Muslim registry. An Apple spokesperson said: “We think people should be treated the same no matter how they worship, what they look like, who they love. We haven’t been asked and we would oppose such an effort.”
I’m glad major technology companies are promising not to aid in Trump with this fascist campaign promise. That being said – these very same companies couldn’t wait to butter up to Trump during a meeting this week, so I’m not sure how much faith I have in these promises. A repatriation tax cut would probably be enough to make them change their minds.
These people are delusional, and just want to be seen as “progressive” people for slavishly following PC principles like the slaves they are.
There is no need for a database specifically for Muslims, or any other demographic for that matter.
We are all in a giant database already, where being Muslim is just another tag.
I agree with Thom: They bend to other countries’ laws, no matter how anti privacy or anti human rights they are, they’ll bow down to fascism once it affects their bottom line.
I don’t doubt that these guys would bow to whatever powers threaten their bottom lines.
I feel compelled to point out that there is currently no tax for investing money earned in foreign countries, but held in US banks (the way it is now). All the money US companies earn in foreign nations can and is routinely spent in the US without penalty.
Yet voters can be manipulated by suggesting that “repatriation” taxes are too high, and that’s why the money doesn’t come back here (even though it literally already does). Even worse, there was a recent tax jubilee for repatriation – some companies actually took advantage of it, and it had absolutely no positive or negative impact on anything, since the money is already here anyway, and all it did is change the column in which the money is recorded in some spreadsheets somewhere.
An American friend of mine has lived in Australia since 1972. He is still required to pay US taxes on his Australian pension!
I’m already on the TSA so called “random search” list. The airlines mark my tickets with that two character code for further search and seizure, pat downs/unconsented groping, every time.
Can’t even perform a simple wire transfer without experiencing a Spanish inquisition/witch trial.
I don’t even fit the description most people assume a Muslim looks like. Not even close. They put me on these lists because of my name. It’s not like I’m fresh off the boat either. I’m 8th gen Appalachian American. I was born and raised doing what us holler folks do. Your basic Muslim hillbilly.
Haters are gonna hate. The irony too is, I get hassled more by liberals than by rednecks, because of my beliefs.
Maybe someone just tagged you as having a nice package?
More seriously, as stated in another comment, how is it people don’t think they aren’t already in some database where their buying habits, race, religious leanings, associates, etc?
I assume you are a convert to Islam. Converts are considered to be particularly vulnerable to radicalisation. That is why you are targeted.
The Nazis in the 30s didn’t suddenly persecute Jews/others … they did it slowly over a decade… making each measure incrementally more and more terrible yet acceptable.
Like boiling a frog.
It’s a myth. The frog simply jumps out when the water gets too warm.
Hi,
In related news; Google, Apple and Uber have not said that they won’t help Thom Holwerda butcher newborn babies with an axe.
Note: Let’s all ignore the fact that Google, Apple and Uber were never asked to help Thom Holwerda butcher newborn babies with an axe and that Thom Holwerda didn’t actually say he intended to do this anyway; in the same way that we’re ignoring the fact that Google, Apple and Uber were never asked to help create a Muslim registry and Trump didn’t actually say he intended to create a Muslim registry.

Except he did. It’s even on video.

Except that’s not specifically what he said; he’s clearly talking about a database to keep illegals out, not exactly the same as requiring all American Muslims to be registered.
And btw, neither did he say ‘all Mexicans are rapists’, as the Left keeps insisting. Unless they’re also saying that all Mexicans are illegal immigrants.
Evidence doesn’t matter in the face of a Trump believer. These guys literally think God sent him (that’s on video too).
Yup 🙂
Everyone knows if you want to make a registry of people, you go to IBM. They’ve done it before.
