After 22 years, 2 months, 2 days and 2 hours since System 6.0.1 was released, this is a summary of the visible changes. There have been many bugs fixed and many features added that are not immediately visible – they will enable developers to create better future products. Be sure to also read the Shortcuts file on the SystemTools3 disk for more information.
Crazy.

jasutton,
Thom doesn’t read osnews
To be fair, he was on vacation.
To be fair, I just don’t get it why people complains so much. Do they complain as much to their local newspaper or TV broadcast because of the frequent re editions ? Why because we have a comment section people use it the bad way ? The web is open, if they don’t like what they see, they are free to go elsewhere.
I think a lot of it is that people want to take part, and show they were paying attention. There’s a little bit of “gotcha, editors, I’m paying more attention to this website than you are!” Fair enough.
That’s a size game I’m not part of.
Slacker!
not being serious.
If anyone has a IIgs and fancies trying this out though – would love to hear a report on it.
while i have used pre system 7 mac OS’es – i was a youngster then and was on my father’s systems as a child and teenager and don’t remember much details..
remember being frustrated i couldn’t use c64 or dos programs on macs long before puberty or i understood any of the technical reasons though
The Apple II is far from a dead platform for enthusiasts. You’ll find the same kind of communities for most vintage computers. Many homebrew software and hardware efforts are underway to bring “modern” features to the II series of Apple Computers.
I installed GS/OS 6.0.2 on my rom 01 //gs last night. All software was running on either a compact flash card or usb flash drive through a CFFA3000. The machine was also hooked up to an hdmi monitor for video output (Carte Blanche II).

There’s no discussion on how they accomplished this or how they intend to expand on it in the future. I don’t think they have the 6.0.x source code, so are they simply hacking what they have?

Here’s a video of Apple IIgs System 6.0.1 being compiled within Mac OS 7.5.5.

Slightly off topic but following on from that assertion that (presumably) these folk don’t have access to the 6.0.x source codecode….but hacked around to “fix” bugs best the could…
Does anyone else think that the Microsofts, Apples, Googles, Broadcoms, Nvidias etc of the world really *should* (for history’s sake if nothing else) – eventually – release the source code/technical notes for each of their core offerings. (Whether that be 25,50,100 or 1000 years post initial release).. ??
