Huawei is about to make its presence felt at MWC with the announcement of the Huawei Watch. The watch itself was first spotted yesterday on a billboard, but we now have full promo videos for this Android Wear-powered beauty that will be made official in a few hours. Posted to the Huawei YouTube channel, two videos walk through the design process for the watch and also show how cheesy Euros are when they take vacations with their brosephs.
Aside from the cheese, the videos do show one of the prettiest (this actually might be the prettiest) smartwatches we have seen to date. It features sapphire glass, a heart rate sensor, interchangeable leather or metal straps, crown, a bunch of classy watch faces, and a perfectly round watch face.
This thing is just gorgeous – full stop. Of course, it still has Android Wear which needs a lot of work, but it’s clear that round is the way to go. Square just looks bulky, computery, and geeky.
Does it pass the funeral test, Thom?
Set the screen to “timeless design” and it would fit perfectly. Assuming the real thing looks as good as these pictures promises.
Unlikely to pass the weekend test though (keep power without charging over a weekend), but then neither do most smartphones.
But it will still end up in the drawer. Because we don’t need a itsy bitsy screen on our wrist when we have a big fat one in the pocket with a useful onscreen keyboard.
Gees.
How long until the Pentagon suggests the units they sell in the US will be loaded with Chinese-government mandated spyware, enabling them to uncover what time it is in the US?
EDIT: Also, I really want one. Those look nice.

Storm Watches should release a line of smartwatches. I’d love to see what crazy designs they would come up with.
Those are great looking watches. The fact that they don’t look like smart watches makes them seem more appealing IMHO.
I’d still prefer a timepiece that lasts at least week or two between charges though. The smart features…meh. I haven’t tried them, but I just don’t see smart watches providing much utility for me.
Nope. Because the whole point of owning a smartwatch is bragging about it.
But if you buy a Huawei Watch, when people ask what brand it is, you ‘ll have to say “Huawei” and pronounce it correctly in order for the brag to be successful.
Nobody has managed to pronounce “Huawei” the way it’s meant to be pronounced, except perhaps the sales reps, and even they probably needed training to do so.

What’s wrong with Computerish and Geeky?
A total misunderstanding of the watch industry. That’s what.
This is getting really boring. Yes, we know you don’t like AWear, we heard you the first one thousand times.
Regarding the watch, it still seems too thick to me. While it can be handy to have something to disable pickpckets with, as a watch, it’s like the Moto360, and I think the LG GwR looks nicer.
So making a “gorgeous” smart watch according to Thom is apparently just making a watch. The smart watches that look like watches are praised, the ones that aren’t are called ugly. Not exactly a big accomplishment to make a good looking smart watch then. Am I the only one that is looking for useful features and not a thing that looks identical to a traditional watch but requires a charge every day?
As soon as you use this thing for smart applications it won’t look “beautiful” anymore. If all you care about is style then get a normal watch.
