Amazon is continuing to fiddle with the Fire Phone’s software even after it became apparent that the device isn’t selling terribly well. An OTA is going out right now to the AT&T and GSM unlocked devices with a ton of improvements to the camera, battery life, lock screen, and more.
Did anyone – anyone – buy this phone?
I expected the Fire phone to be released for $199 or less. After all, other Fire gear was affordable. So, when it came out at $649, I almost S#!t ab brick. So, no sale here.
It’s $230 now unlocked.

It’s still not going to go anywhere at that price, specially given what the device actually is.
Yes, I bought one and use it as my main phone. Why? It does Amazon music and books really well, better than anyone else. I realized that I am a heavy consumer of their music service and their Kindle books.
I haven’t had any problems. It makes phone calls and has a lot of apps. Not nearly as many as Android or iOS, but many games and most of the important ones to me.
Also, to me, as a HTML5 app developer, it is of great interest because it lets you put HTML5 apps in the app store, just like Firefox OS and Chrome.
And unlike most other app stores, the people who buy apps are (right now) willing to pay money.
So I’m happy, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have tons of music and books stored on Amazon.
As long as it fits your needs, IMHO it’s a fine choice – just as fine as others. What’s more, it makes you original… 🙂
