News broke this morning that Google, alongside a number of venture capital firms, led a $542 million investment in a mysterious startup named Magic Leap. The company is promising to “build a rocket ship for the mind” that will completely reinvent the way we experience the world. Founder Rony Abovitz calls his technology “cinematic reality” and says it goes way beyond what virtual or augmented reality have so far been able to accomplish. More at Engadget, and NYT.
In related news Apple is creating an oculus rift-like A-R display system… one that they created as opposed to buying other’s tech.

So by your logic, Siri isn’t really Apple tech?
Not sure if you are joking, trolling or clueless, so just in case: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siri#Research_and_development

I’m rather confused by your post. The words you used seem to be in opposition to the previous post, but the link supports the parent. It wasn’t Apple that developed the core technology behind Siri.
Apple (and most large companies) patents all sorts of crazy stuff. Doesn’t mean it will ever get to market.
So which is it? Are they creating, or have they created?
Actually: Neither: “Apple is investigating”
In related news, this is the first post that mentions Google in this topic, but Apple has been mentioned at least half a dozen times???
Been there, done that. It’s called DMT 🙂
LSD sounds better.
LSD? Nah, that’s reserved to Apple Fans because it provides them with a guaranteed RDF view of the world with every dose.
..that when I was at university, someone once handed me something that was precisely like a rocket ship for the mind.
Don’t know if it was patented though…or worth millions..
Rubix Cube ?
Kochise
Most people don’t think it is real any more, but there is this magical place away from computers where all kinds of neat stuff happens.
I’m having trouble getting the pause and replay functions to work.
The rewind button seems jammed, too. And fast forward only goes at play speeds, when it is even working.
Google already has Niantic Labs, an in-house augmented reality studio and developers of Ingress, an extremely popular AR MMO game played from mobile phones, tablets, and car stereos.
