“Japanese telecom operator Willcom has unveiled the ‘Phone Strap 2 WX06A’ which is the world’s smallest and lightest phone. The phone measures 32x70x10.7 mm and weighs a mere 32 grams, to put it in perspective the iPhone 5 measures 123.8×58.6×7.6 mm and weighs 112 grams which is almost 4 times heavier than the Phone Strap 2.” Why does Japan always get all the cool stuff. I’d love me one of these. Kawaii ne?
I am sorry, but I even do not intend to change that.
Interesting… only as a talking point. I don’t think Apple and Samsung are quaking in their boots.
Who would realistically want one, when elsewhere screen are getting larger? I don’t think my fat fingers could dial accurately, not that I could see much on the screen.
But I appreciate it from a we-built-it-because-we-could perspective.

That mobile has been introduced 4 years ago, might be even smaller and has reasonably sized controls.
It’s not smaller, actually.
Willcom 123.8×58.6×7.6 mm
Modo 72.1 x 37.6 x 7.8 mm
The Modo is 40% smaller than the Willcom – yet you still claim it is is bigger!
No, those were the dimensions of the iPhone.
The Phone Strap 2 is slightly smaller than the Modo, albeit a little bit thicker.

volume
Modu Phone is 72.1 x 37.6 x 7.8 mm = 21145,488 mm^3
the Phone Strap 2 is 32 x 70 x 10.7 mm = 23968 mm^3
front plate area
Modu Phone is 72.1 x 37.6 mm = 2710,96 mm^2
the Phone Strap 2 is 32 x 70 mm = 2240mm^2
so it depends wether you choose front plate area or volume as size.
Derek Zoolander already had an even smaller phone.
Darn, you beat me to it!!
Anyways, about this phone.
Either there’s still a market for this sort of thing in Japan, or some Wilcom is severely out of touch. I doubt it’s the former, though I could be wrong; Fujitsu still sell truckloads of their “infidelity” phones, from what I’ve read.
??
Are you supposed to dial it with a toothpick or something? Count me out.
One BIG advantage it has over the iPhone is that nobody will want to steal it.
If that’s your market, alright.
I’d take the Nokia 8210 or the Ericsson T28s over this any time of the day.

Funny that you phrase it that way, since it sounds like Apple’s next “phone” will be the iWatch which will probably be about half the size of this thing and still expected to do everything the iPhone does.
The difference being that everyone will want one, and the small size will be a feature.

I know there is a market for anything you can ever invent in Japan, but i actually like the ide that phones again should become small and light. The clumsy behemoths many people carry around theese days is sometimes a hindrance and also it looks kinda retarded.
Hi,
What this means is that Japan continues to lag behind the rest of the world for “phones designed to be communication devices”, but has become the world leader in “phones designed to be rammed up your butt”.

The best way to make a small phone with a readable display and usable buttons is a flip phone. I understand people wanting a small and light phone as I am such a person, but a one piece phone isn’t a good way to do that. I am still using a flip phone phone that is several years old and I dread the day I have to replace it. I see people carrying around touch screen phones the size of a paperback novel and I am reminded of the bag phone I used in the early 90’s. Not everyone wants to play games and surf the web with their phone. Some of us just want to make calls and send text messages. Bring back the Startac.
