Microsoft has announced the launch date of the Surface Pro, as well as widened availability of the Surface RT. The Surface Pro will launch in the US and Canada only, 9 February, for a starting price of $899. Surface RT’s market availability, in the meantime, will expand to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland, also 9 February. Considering I was planning on ordering one from Germany, they’re just in time so I can order from The Netherlands.
Thanks, but no thanks. I’ve lost interest.
I guess I’m not the only one. Why, Microsoft, why another Zune attempt?
Because the Zune was fricking awesome?
The Zune was a great device. The only reason it flopped was because It Wasn’t the iPod.
Android has proven that tablets that aren’t iPads can sell, so Microsoft is going for it with a cool device.
I have to agree. My ZuneHD was one of the best devices I’ve ever owned. Period. That’s including various Lumia’s and a Surface. The ZuneHD to me is the perfect PMP.
Why didn’t MS sell it in Europe and the rest of the world if it was so great and awesome then?
I couldn’t find any store that would sell it to me. The reason why it flopped is because Microsoft didn’t believe in it. Same with silverlight, IE6, desktop gaming, voice recognition, NT etc. They didn’t get the full support of MS and eventually declined in support to the point of barely existing. Pitty cause MS could be the IBM of the software world where almost anything is developed at MS and licenced. Right now MS only claims to invent stuff but just lies.
??
The technology of Silverlight lives on. IE6 lived way too long. MS was never that big in desktop gaming. Voice recognition just doesn’t work that well. NT – that is the basis of all current Windows releases…
Squirrel!
I love it how the people who complain the loudest about Zune … have never even used a Zune. Zune was a far better device that the iPod. It just lacked the crapware lock-in reach of iTunes.
That’s nice when you are Sandisk or Cowon but when you are a billion dollar company we at least expect an ipod. And the ipod never beat Sandisk or Cowon when it came to functionality so why not the Zune?
that doesn’t have netbook class performance. This model should have been out first.
899 for the cheapest model and that without the touchcover (which costs 129)?
While Surface Pro is cute as a cupcake, it is starting to look expensive now that ASUS, Acer and Samsungs tabs are out.
Their tablets (assuming Win8) use Intel Atoms. This uses a Core i5.
Using Clovertrail you can (as shown by Acer) get down to the $500 range.
Why get a Surface Pro tablet when you can get a Windows 8 laptop or tablet from an OEM for less with way better specs? It just doesn’t make sense and isn’t worth the price tag.
I always thought the Surface Pro was quite competitive for the Ultrabook class processor inside it.
I think they should have a lower end Intel tablet though, I’d buy one. I don’t need the over the top performance.
Way better specs? Seriously?!? This is a tablet running a Core i5 processor. I’d like to see a link to a machine with better specs…
Those “better specs” come at a cost: money, weight, battery life.
and you forgot heat as well.
That would expand the battery live to ~ 8h.
Hope that Surface2 is in the works.
Still the Acer offerings look tempting.
