i’m a little upset with the fact that you’re tied to the win32 platform for j2me development (in so far as you use the Wireless Toolkit) .. i haven’t yet downloaded the nokia toolkit and taken a look at it, but it looks promising to me
*j*
You are not tied to Windows for J2ME development. Sun’s wireless toolkit works on every Java supported platform. Also there are other IDEs with J2ME extensions.
The best thing is, MIDP V2.0 is finally released. It was delayed 8 times, since it was prepared by all the big mobile producers. Finally, they agreed and released the spec, which is much much much better than MIDP V1.0. MIDP 1.0 was kinda limited.
The mobile hw producers, like Nokia, are creating their own tools, for supporting the extensions over MIDP, specific to their phone models. For instance, Nokia’s tool contains extensions to MIDP, that utilizes the interesting features the new Nokia models will have.
I think this is great news for Java community, and Linux community. For instance, Nokia considers that 12 percent of the wireless developers are developing their applications on non-Windows platforms. : ))
Poor Billy is loosing people. : ))))
It’s very nice, I now have a hard time ahead, must resit buying a new J2ME phone until one comes out with MIDP2 support.
This is great news.
“Poor Billy is loosing people”
Poor Billy’s company is still raking in the money, while Sun continues to struggle. MS is by no means losing developers.

Siemens is doing the same:

“Poor Billy’s company is still raking in the money, while Sun continues to struggle. MS is by no means losing developers.”
Last year, I converted 20 Windows developers to Java developers. Here in Europe, Java projects and Linux desktops are popping everywhere like mushrooms, especially in the last 2 years.
“poor” in the “Poor Billy” was not referring to money, but being pathetic dear. : )
MS has money, yes, but they do not have a soul unfortunately. Sun, on the other hand, is much better company in terms of being ethical. Sun is not in very good terms in terms of money, but they are not struggling either, and they are still createing great ideas and things. Better than stealing like MS does. : )
In the end, MS LOOOOOOOOOOOST in the mobile industry. Even Sendo, the only MS backed mobile producer changed their plans of producing MS backed mobiles, and sued them claiming that they tried to steal their ideas and engineers last month. Even if you like it or not, 98 percent of the mobiles are Java based. All the big companies from different climates, such as Sun, Nokia, IBM, Sony, Apple, are all gathered together against this disgusting unethical company and fighting side to side with open source community. The first fruits are already being gethered. MS can be powerful for now, but in 5 years, they will not be as powerful as they are now.
Oh! Yes, yes, Sun is loosing. : ))))
