Infoworld is reporting that Handspring, who has been an exclusive Palm OS licensee, is interested in the RIM email software. The RIM Blackberry devices have proven very popular among business users, but the Blackberry units have limited PDA capabilities. Palm-based wireless messaging devices have been less popular. Presumably, Handspring is interested in producing a “best of both worlds” solution.
Handspring does a great thing, merging Palm with other services, but prices has to come down. I find 60$/month quite high.
In fact, I’m still on the same pathetic 30 minute per month cell phone plan I had when I signed up four years ago because I don’t want even the $35/month package with bundled services I don’t need.
Wireless needs to drop in price to compete with wired, especially were data is concerned. We spend far more time, contiguously, doing data transmission than speaking with other humans.
Well Handspring have to do something. They were market leaders at one stage. Hell, they we’re the first colour Palm.
But they lost out with their Treo and I think that’s basically killed their company off.
