“The new chief executive of MediaNews Group, publisher of the Denver Post and 50 other newspapers, said it was ‘a dumb idea’ for the nation’s second-largest newspaper chain to sign up with copyright troll Righthaven. The Denver-based publisher’s year-long copyright infringement litigation deal with Righthaven is terminating at month’s end.”
could someone please implement auto-ban as soon as a link to ifancyshop.com is posted?
Don’t waste your time asking. Nobody ever seems to reply to such requests.
hope dies last
You can try email, it always works better
Not sure if that would help. Remember – this is not a bot, these are REAL people making accounts. Even implementing per-comment captchas would be pointless.
I wouldn’t go that far anyway. Start doing per-comment verification, and I doubt there’ll be much life in the threads for long. Remember Yahoo webmail back when they tried that?
Are we sure these are real people doing this? It seems similar to a lot of other spam bots I’ve encountered. Some of them are pretty advanced, even able to solve simple captchas more often than not, and I’d think that even the most idle person would have better things to do than to keep creating fake accounts just to post the same jibberish.
Off Topic, I know, but it says underneath the article ‘5 comments’, and even when I set my treshold to -5 I don’t see any comments…
Don’t know why, but you have to use “flat view”.
Oh I understand, they’re all replies to a deleted post. and in threaded view, if the thread has no ‘root’ it isn’t shown. Weird. Thanks for clarifying.
I always use flat view, hadn’t noticed this.
In any case, we need to consider other options here. Will discuss internally.
No I think there is something wrong. For at least a week I’ve been getting false numbers of “x comment(s)”. For example: The “SF Police Launch…” article tells me it has 1 comment even though there are none.
I tested this with Firefox, Conkeror and Chromium. Links does however tell me the right number of comments.

That’s because that one comment was one of the spam comments. When it is removed, there’s a bug in the system which makes the counter remain at 1. For any other amount, the number is properly updated.
They are not bugs, they are alternate implementation capabilities!
