“If you thought Lodsys was done making a spectacle of itself and dragging app developers to court, you were sorely mistaken. The king of the patent trolls has amended its original complaint against mobile devs, removing one company, but adding five new ones – all of them big names. Rovio, Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Atari, and Take-Two Interactive have been added to the list of defendants in the suit filed back in May.” All part of the patent system Apple, Microsoft, Oracle, and IBM fight to maintain.
Loadsh*ts, I fart in your general direction.
Seriously, they really don’t want to mess with Angry Birds. I think there will be some serious backlash for their piggish behavior.
Not only maintain, but proliferate globally and expand. As long as it creates addition barriers for entry for possible competitors.
AFAIK, IBM has kept its head down in this current Patent MADness,
Sure IBM gets lots of patents. They spend Billions on fundamental research so why wouldn’t they?
They have also donated a load of patents to Open Source.
LOLOLOLOLOL!!!! That is not really true. And IBM has come to defence of software patents time and time again…
Really?
In all this current Patent MADness, where is IBM? They aren’t involved.
So they like patents. So what? They develop an awful lot of hardware and software. Certainly a lot more than Lodsys or Intellectual Ventures. Probably in your eyes, that does not count and they are a patent troll just like all these others.
Remember it was SCO who went after IBM. IBM have also contributed a lot of code into Linux especially wrt Linux on Mainframes. If IBM didn’t support Linux do you really think that they would allow Linux to run on their Z hardware and also to allow it to run in a lower priced CPU unit that that used for Z/OS?
They are neither good nor bad and certainly do deserve to be lumped in with the likes on Microsoft, Oracle or Apple.
And before you ask, I don’t work for IBM.
I know that you don’t work for them, because I do.
They’re(or we’re, if you like) involved in a lot of backroom patent license deals.
