The show featured the release of new hardware in the form of the ARMini, a ‘Beagleboard inside’ computing system optimised to run RISC OS. Beagleboard + RISC OS = £89
as the OS is free from RISC OS Open.
That’s a DIY solution to running RISC OS, and great if you are technically minded.
The ARMini comes as a properly packaged, ready to use, out of the box system – ‘plug and play’.
The two solutions are aiming at two different sorts of RISC OS enthusiast.

The article describes a full attendance and queues… don’t look like there were that many people attending, and this “is the biggest show of the year”, I wouldn’t want to be attending one of the smaller shows 🙂
One of the biggest things talked about were the boiled sweets on offer at one of the stands… that’s worth going all the way to wakefield for
I missed out on both the boiled sweets and the Bounty bars! The queues may not be evident in the photos but it was certainly reasonably busy.
Laugh all you like, but I think the turnout actually wasn’t bad for an OS which is battling hard to be
“No Longer Thoroughly Obsolete”!

The first thing that came to mind was “awesomely retro-80’s show”. The second thing was “so british it hurts”.
If I had the money I’d buy one. I love learning new ecosystems. Endeavors like the ARMini are more about passion than profit. As far as I concerned, that’s a good thing. Go punters!
